Every time I get into a server that isn't full I end just getting a black screen where I can't do anything from. This happens to me whenever I try and get into any half life internet game not only Natural Selection. The single player works fine though.

General problem solvers: 1. update all your drivers 2. make sure you are running OpenGL mode in any case 3. update CD
1) Do not use the desktop shortcut. Use the one from the start menu instead.
2) Update CD (Cheating-Death) like ThinG said.
3) Make sure your connected to the internet.

It might sound like a silly question, but how long does the screen go black for? I mean, can you go away from your computer and come back ten minutes later to find that it's still black?
Have you got the console enabled, or do you see a "loading" screen when singleplayer maps are loading? I've never heard of it happening before, but maaaaybe this is your problem. Try adding -console to the end of your HL shortcut, see if that helps. (But then again, I think the NS shortcut adds it automatically. So that doesn't help you :/)

I have this problem sometimes, and I found that if you hit the esc button a couple of times it goes away, and the game screen comes up. This has also happened in the DoD mod, I haven't tried any other mods so don't know if it is all the half-life mods or just these two. Just don't hit the button too quick or it can sometimes kick you to the desktop. I've found twice (slowly) and with a slight pause to be sufficient. SoulSkorpion when it happens to me, it will stay until I either do the steps above, or the map changes, and then it's a hit or miss affair. Badmamajama hope this helps, and good gaming.
umm i coudnt c how to start my own topic but ill just post here i dl ns 2.0 ( i didnt have the first 1 in but i dont think that matters) i cant play i installed it but no desktop icon was put on my desktop no start icon was put in my start menu and i cant find any other way to run ns
Try using the shortcut from the Start menu. This happened to me, back in the 1.04 days, and I did this and it seemed to work fine.
Other then that, I don't really know what your problem is.
I'd also suggest updating drivers for everything, and definately make sure your video mode is running in OpenGL. If this is not the case, set it at this status.
Hopefully, everything works out for you, and you can rock up some aliens/marines!

But to answer your troubles, "car".
You should just reinstall Natural-Selection, this should fix your problem.
