• dr_ddr_d Join Date: 2003-03-28 Member: 14979Members
I'll wait for official word from Valve. Last I checked they were releasing HL2 in September and CS2 in Decemeber.

Maybe if we're lucky they'll push it really hard to come out exactly on time, like Enter the Matrix did. And it'll come out really well, like.... oh, wait.
• dr_ddr_d Join Date: 2003-03-28 Member: 14979Members
That wasn't my point, my point was that Valve is very tight-lipped about this stuff and I don't see why an online gaming review site would break the news to me.

Exactly, no rush. We don't what HL2 merged with Enter the Matrix.

Well, if it is true, then certainly it was no surprise...

sigh... its not true.... remember amazon.com changed their release date to december? like so many 3rd party news groups went off and made up a story about it... some people may even consider september a holiday (haha not... maybe happy hl2 day?)

This was posted on another news site and confirmed UNTRUE by VALVe. The September 30th release date is still scheduled.

Yah I'm not surprised. Some of these online gaming sites are just completely off-base, I've seen reviews about a game that made it seem like a boring RTS with a lot of glitches and when I actually played it it turned out to be an action RPG.

I mean they were just posting screenshots and giving misinformation about them like a screenie of a group of NPCs in the game and the caption read "Basic units used for production".

Lesson for today is don't trust online gaming sites.

And even more of a lesson confirm rumors before starting these kind of topcis : P

lol. Damn websites always get it wrong. I remember I read once that in HL2 you had to maintain your guns. This included fixing jams and cleaning out the barrel. Hmmm....sounds more like America's Army to me.

That was a complete spoof, yet so many people thought it was correct...

It is interesting to note that all the sources quoted as saying HL2 will be delayed are Vivendi sources, not Valve sources. Which could mean that Sierra/Vivendi may in fact have been looking at their schedules and decided to bump it back to hit the coveted holiday season, a booming time for retail games. *shrug* It is entirely possible that this may have happened without staff at Valve even being aware of it before seeing it on the internet (whether or not that is the case here is up in the air, but it's not an unknown phenomenon).

We shall see which actually becomes the case.

Valve are pretty ruthless when it comes to having things their way. If they would be willing to give into vivendi don't you think HL2 wouldn't be a PC only release? Valve isn't all about $.

one reason I respect Valve.

They are there for a good product, they have a talented team, and care about the community.

At least in my opinion

Also realize that one of the reasons Valve wants to popularize Steam is so that they won't have Sierra (and thus Viviendi) as a middleman for publishing the retail boxes we're all used to buying. If Viviendi says Holiday 2003 and Valve disagrees, you may want to keep your eyes peeled for news about Steam...

Well, actually, there's two possibilities here from what information is available, neither of which places the blame on Valve...

Possibility 1) It's not true. Easy enough, everyone comes out a winner except the sites that posted the incorrect information

Possibility 2) Vivendi has indeed pushed back the release date and didn't bother to tell Valve yet. Which is -not- an uncommon occurrence in the industry, sadly, even though this -shouldn't- be a possibility. :-\

There seems to be no indication of any sort of delay on HL2 content or development, which makes perfect sense in case 1 and makes me want to strangle the guy who invented marketing in case 2.

That means another class for him to wait on.

With the released POSSIBLY delayed, would you like to see newer versions of the Mod's we all love?

I trust Valve, so I hope that site was wrong.

Plus, if we have to wait a few more months to get a better product, I wouldn't mind waiting. Of course, I don't know if the game will be better, which could turn to be a totall fiasco.....
(HOPE IT ISN'T!!!)

And I echo that opinion.
Just look at those email replies to see their commitment.
As for the delay, I have this gut feeling it's true though I wish it was not.
Life's not fair.

Guys, remember: VALVe isn't telling ANYBODY exclusively release date stuff. The chances of one of their guys getting it before every other site in the world is 0. NO FRIGGIN CHANCE. DISREGARD THIS UNLESS ITS THE OFFICIAL WORD.

Gabe's quote, when some fan wrote to him about the stories:

First time I've heard about this.

Seriously, you'd think these news sites would actually ask for official comment before going live with a story, no?
