This question have probably been answered a hundred time before, but I can't find any information on WHAT the "readyroom" is.
And Yes I HAVE searched for it. And Yes I also checked the FAQs.
What does it do? Where is it? Why is it there?
So far all I have gathered is that it have something to do with chatting....

The readyroom is the room where all players spawns when they join a game.
The readyroom has four exits:
1 exit is for "Join Specators"
1 exit is for "Join Random Team"
1 exit is for "Join Aliens"
1 exit is for "Join Marines"
The readyroom is created by the mapper and is individual in every map. The mapper also decides how the exits look like, but mostly they have green signs above them.
Besides the purpose of joining teams the readyroom is also used to simply hang around and talk before the action starts. It is a nice way to avoid complicated GUI(Graphical(?) User Interface) Menus also.
And you MUST have found it with a search...
Might I add that the readyroom is really a key part of the social experience of the game. It may seem a lowly little room where you simply pick your teams... but NS wouldn't be the same experience without it. <!--emo&:)--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':)'><!--endemo-->
Actually, the readyroom isn't there to eliminate gui menus because they're confusing or too complex... It's to further immerse you in to the game. So you're constantly "playing", not browsing through menus. It may not sound like that big of a deal, going through a few clicks in a menu... and it isn't... but the readyrooms go a long way to making the game all that more immersive.
