Think happy thoughts, CMEast. Happy thoughts. (:
Oh, and as for minesweeper - I'll pwn j00. And I don't even *use* the right mouse button. It's more of a challenge that way.
I mean, the manual could mostly tell us stuff we already know except worded differently.... or maybe not. I mean, they could just outline like.... umm... the maps?.... the uh... stuff? Bah, I dunno. I guess CMEast is right on this one.
I think releasing the manual ahead of time is a great idea, I wish I thought of it. As far as ruining surprises, I don't think that's a big problem. I'd rather have tons of people that know what they're doing on the servers, so it's not utter chaos. I think releasing the manual ahead of time is a nice PR booster as well.
I would think that the people that really don't want any surprises ruined just shouldn't read the manual. I honestly can't think of any huge surprises or spoilers anyways. There is plenty of stuff that's not in the manual anways (levels, music, artwork, story, strategies, new features post v1.0, etc.).
I say, release the full manual as soon as it's ready!
i know that existence released the manual before releasing the game itslef , and i read the manual waited for it to be realeased , and played the game , but their were still alot of ppl that sed : WTF DO I NEED TO DO!?!" but thats a normal thing i guess.. , so i for releasing it early
Well as said, i'd love to have the manual released a bit early, im sure it will satisfy some of the craving for news. Personly i love to read up on games before i play them. I just get very irritated when i play the game and there is no manual to it. I always read the manual at least one tiem before i have a go at the game itself.
As Flayra mentioned, if there is no real secrets in game, then there is nothign stopping it from hitting the public a bit early. I know i will enjoy reading it.

TBH, id love to read the manual early but thats only cos Im really curious about the game , still say that releasing it because otherwise it wont be read is wrong. Still say itll ruin that whole new game feeling you get if it comes in installments. Also still say your a loser if you dont bother reading the manual whenever it comes out. But if it wont ruin any surprises then I wont attack anyone again for it (Ill still RTFM them though).

Quote

I guess CMEast is right on this one.

Oh, and Im the king of minesweeper, I rule all. My current top scores are 8-32-99 and without using r-click Ive completed expert in about 150 (I forget exactly what it was cos obviously it didnt save it, someone should make a better minesweeper (oo, NS themed )
I had faster times but lost them when someone uninstalled it and deleted stuff (grrr at family) and putting the scores back by editing the minesweeper file is cheating.
Thinking happy thoughts, tralala, oooo look, a fairy, a flying pig, a... why is it that so many nice things have wings? nm

My best minesweeper scores were 4, 23, and I think around 150. All of those were without using the RMB. Beginner is mostly luck, and Expert just has so many mines that you get lost really often... the Intermediate score is the one I'm proudest of. (:

Quote

ver, I know the devs have surprises they don't want spoiled before release.

*suspicion grows*
anyways, i think its a good idea, depending on how long before, perhaps that morning while they're setting up the download sites taht way, you have sumthing to read while inline and installing.
Btw i mention ed this in one of my posts on the idea's forums (where this belongs) about a month ago, so dont take all the credit for it plz
But i think it should be released about an hour before the game, so you could read it while you download it.
What about us ppl with l337 broadband connections who manage to find a realy close mirror.
You can stop bragging and read it when you go to sleep.
An hour before? Well, then I'll just be downloading it, and I won't have an excuse to not play the game instead of reading the manual! (As you can tell, my willpower is limited)
Why? Because, well, I'm never "spot-on" with things. I'm not going to see the manual EXACTLY when it comes out, therefore not giving me an hour to read it. I'll probably not even see the pre-released manual if it's released only and hour before NS. I say at least 12 hours before NS.
I'm all for releasing the manual about 2-3 days before the release. Just to let the world grow to fever pitch for the download. 2 days should be ample time to read the manual also.
Let me just say this (because I've only just now found this thread): I, for one, don't think any surprises will be ruined by seeing the manual a few days in advance (something I am quite in fav or of, for the record).
There is a distinct difference between knowing you can bite as a level one and actually jumping out of the shadows and doing so. There is a distinct difference between knowing it costs 'x' resources to get an HMG and actually mowing through a squad of aliens with that bad ### mother of a gun.
Just thinking: It also depends on how big the manual is. thinking: The manual will be _WAY_ big (IMO) why? 1. Theres much stuff to explain. 2. Nemesis is one of the writers.
if so many of you are against the premanual, then release some kind of faq, explaining the simple basics, your goal etc there have to be alot of stuff thats no secret in this game right? i cant understand why not ive seen it so many times when people try a game without knowing their goals or nothing, heck it happens to me too
making a how-to guide would only be good pr, people would like to know as much as they can before venturing out on that probably medium-large sized download. so why not brief them in their mission you dont need to say anything about weapons or special abilities, just say this is you comcenter, jumpp in it and place 1 soldier teleport at a chosen spot and use the command system to tell the rest to build
