Hmm i don't have a step-by-step guide but a good tip is to use Stomp before. It gets a LOT easier devouring them..

Yep i had ltos of problems with devour till i worked out how to do it.

To use devour simple aim down while you devour, aim just below the knees and make sure u r quite close tot hem when u devour.

Best to use stomp tos tun them, aim down towards them then devour

U have to be very precise with aim, and also hit fire just as ur pressing against the. If use use stomp before hand, its very easy <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->

stomp is the best way to do it. It stops them from jumping and all that. I usually just crouch and aim for their chest. It works soo much better, cause then I can still see what is hapening other than lookin at the rines feet.

    1. Stomp
    2. Walk up to him, crouch
    3. Aim at the chest or back
    4. Devour
    5. Enjoy your meal

i find it best to aim just below and left of the centre of the screen to devour, but i rarely if ever keep my cursor mildly still so who knows ;p

The horn model kind of conflicts with the target. You think your aiming right at him when in the game your aiming to high. Stomp him, walk up to him, crouch and devour then. you WILL get him right away. If he gets away gore him for trying. <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->

and going on with that he should be probably in the middle of your horn or so.. otherwise it is too high, and yes you can go a bit lower, try to picture where his mouth his.

I never could quite devour a marine while they weren't stunned

Devour puzzles me. It must be very easy when you get the hang of it, because I've seen players who I remember as being SUPAR-LEETZ0R back in 1.04 who basically will rush into a room with Celerity, run up to a HA, gulp him down their first try, and run the hell away to digest and repeat. It's nasty, very nasty, and it's why I've gotten very fond of jetpacks as a much cheaper and more onos-resistant solution. Them and weapons three shotties. 26 shots = Hive. <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo--> Anyway...

I hear it's almost 100% if you're pressed right up against them, and ducking when you hit the button. It's probably easier if you're aiming further down than you need to be. I don't trust my abilities to eat marines yet, and I usually train my devouring skills when the aliens are controlling the whole map, and the marines don't even have HMG/GL. Stun is nice to keep people still, but I usually use it to just gore people instead, especially HA. It's just a lot more reliable to stun them, keep them from firing, gore them once, hit previous weapon to stomp them again, and repeat. When you get THAT skill down, it's sad how much you can own up on people. However, that's assuming you control two hives.

Devour is ridiculously easy if you're content to be a camping, cloaked Onos. You just wait right in the middle of a small doorway for marines to try and run through, and right when they touch you, GULP. Pretty lame, and most Onos know they're better spent on assault-mode, not camping like a skulk for pete's sake. Still, you do what you have to. I think you can still devour jumping marines, but it's probably hard to impossible.

If you play on optus servers, I'll explain and pratice it with on them. (optus is in Australia for any who haven't heard of it).

Why can't I tell you now? I might be able to tell you here but you might not understand.

Oh it's hapi, well I know he does play on optus. Next time I see you on it, I'll demonstrate on you <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->

I don't believe devour was ever in v1.04, so noone could have rushed "into a room with Celerity, run up to a HA, gulp him down their first try, and run the hell away to digest and repeat."

Also, I devoured a flying JPer once.... very funny.... he was trying his best to get away when I jumped looked up and ate him. <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo--> I also devoured a marine that was camping in that vent above the marine start in eclipse... poor fool thought he could not be hurt.... when suddenly I jumped ate him, and gored the other one. <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->

Yeah dude, see, when I said<!--QuoteBegin--></span><table border='0' align='center' width='95%' cellpadding='3' cellspacing='1'><tr><td><b>QUOTE</b> </td></tr><tr><td id='QUOTE'><!--QuoteEBegin--> because I've seen players who I remember as being SUPAR-LEETZ0R back in 1.04 who basically will rush into a room with Celerity,<!--QuoteEnd--></td></tr></table><span class='postcolor'><!--QuoteEEnd--> I went from talking in the past tense to talking in the present tense, as in "Back in", and then, "Who basically will", as opposed to "would." It's okay. I guess I should have been more specific. I assumed everyone knew devour wasn't in 1.04, and would obviously infer that I was saying that the people who used to own in the old days are even more own-y with devour nowadays.

    Totally not your fault.

I need more practice devouring. It's tough. And random.

I believe he was saying 'folks that were <i>good</i> in 1.04 were also good in 2.0; he means good in the fact that they cn devour on their first try.

And no, devour was not in the previous client.

let me break it up for you:

<!--QuoteBegin--></span><table border='0' align='center' width='95%' cellpadding='3' cellspacing='1'><tr><td><b>QUOTE</b> </td></tr><tr><td id='QUOTE'><!--QuoteEBegin-->Devour puzzles me. devour was not in 1.04, but ppl who were good in 1.04 can do it really easily in 2.0

i dunno if these guys helped you or not cause theres to many replies for me to read threw, but just incase they missed a certain thing ill tell you now.

before trying to devour, STOMP near them to stun them then you can walk up to em and devour em, but remmember u can only devour 1 guy at a time, so when u got 1 digesting, run away and hide somewhere till the bar at the bottom is done and you see a marine pop out your ****. then u can go eat some more =D
  • ZiGGYZiGGY Join Date: 2003-01-19 Member: 12479Members
ok I apologise for my previous reply I use arc aiming and so though the direction I gave you was wrong it was on a similar gradient. Basically to devour walk right up to a marine (which most of the time requires celerity), face him and place the marine slightly above and to the right of the centre of your screen. Practice this and you shall never miss, this is quite hard with high ping and marines will try to dodge but it is in that location roughly. Like any weapon dispersal system practice is all you need.

Ok, lets get some things straight.

#1 I have been following NS since June of 2002, so I am pretty sure I know what is and what is not in NS.

#2 I know that devour was never in NS1.0, I just misunderstood what he was saying, but now I get it.

#3 I considered myself pretty good at NS, but I still find devouring fairly hard... but then again, I was only ever good at skulk/lerk.

#4 If you aim at a marine's gut (put the center of the marine in the center of your screen), and use devour, you should almost always get them. Maybe we can make a custom crosshair for devour?
