I'm 90% certain that there isn't any location damage in NS yet. So shooting the skulk's claw will do the same amount of damage as shooting his head would. It's the gun, gun upgrade level and the carapace that can alter how much damage each shot causes.

Don't really need to shoot anywhere, except make a decent attempt to shoot the alien. Get your commander to pull some upgrades out of the hat, and you should be able rock some skulks, with LMG's..

Doesn't matter where you hit 'em. Just land as many shots as you can before you become alien food

I suck at killing skulks I can only kill em when they are standing still or attacking a structure

i've found that mineshaft is a good map for skulks to hide in. With sensory and silence i've found myself owned on many ocations. When i do manage to see them its more of a burst fire spray fest. I just got some new headphones because my $100 ones broke (DHAMNIT!). I think im ready to kick some butt.

What this has to do with this topic?

It has to do with aiming, I think.

The thing that remains the same from 1.04, and is still true today: Your pistol is your long range weapon. It will ALWAYS hit the dot in the center of the screen, and you fire as fast as you can pull the trigger. If you see a skulk stand still for long enough to pull the pistol out, line up the shot and NAIL that sucker. Pistol shots are more damaging than LMG shots as well, so if you get a bead on any alien long enough, you can bore a hole right through them, no problem. It's great for keeping an eye on a vent and waiting to see a skulk pop up for a looksee. Wail on the fire button, and that's one dead little alien. Once the aliens start moving around constantly, you may be better off with your LMG, since it has a spread pattern, and fires fast enough to do the job.

At the moment there is no area specific damage, so just aim for the center of mass, pull the trigger, and try to get solid connections.

sorry for asking this, but do all aliens still use the gordon freeman hitbox (i don't recall any changes to hitboxes in the changelog; but if i'm wrong, please correct me on this)?

They absolutely do NOT use the Gordon Freeman Hitbox. That would be silly.

There were howerver some hitbox problems in 1.04. You had to shoot a little above and behind a skulk to hit it; the bullets would just pass through the head and claws. And hitting an onos was just about impossible. The developers say this has been fixed in 2.0, but a few players occasionally report that the problems still exists. All I can say is, if you're unsure, join a bored server and perform your own tests.

But any time you shoot an alien and see blood, you've done the standard ammount of damage. There are no headshots, or anything like that, in NS.

It is 100% confirmed that there is no locational damage whatsoever, both for aliens and marines. As far as I know, there are no plans to implement it, either.

Skulk hitboxes: (for example)
• sputnik_bvsputnik_bv Join Date: 2003-08-03 Member: 18845Members
Something a tab bit odd:
The Lerk has no hitboxes for the wings.

Because they are probably made of bacteria and would regrow quickly...

sputnik_bv, I don't think you should be posting those pics as evidence.

I remember those pics being posted before, and some people mentioned they are NOT accurate depictions. They are glamour shots, the actual hitboxes are very different.

IIRC:
Weapon hits are controlled by boxes called hulls. There are only 3 types of hulls in HL, and this is virtually unchangable without major work.

The basic idea was to always aim to the rear and high of aliens, especially the Ono. The box you had to hit tended to be in the stomach area, and often quite high on the body.

Based on stuff I've read post 2.0, I'll continue to aim for the stomach, just in case.

ok thx good to know where to aim now - ill aim high and behind skulks to try and see if that is more effective and i will aim at the stomach of onos - ill just aim at the middle of everything except skulks and be carful not to aim at the wings of lerks

thx
