I cant believe only 1 of you has heard of battlezone! Ive got battlezone2 and that is a game of futuristic combat between human and alien. The aliens can morph (not evolve but change what they are so slightly similar) and both sides have a brilliant commander view which can also be used in first-person too. And of course its a fps too with a large range of weaponry and... stuff.
Basically, its like NS but in large open terrain... oh yeah, and with loads of vehicles so its even more like a tradition RTS than NS is. Tis a brilliant beautiful game and I would suggest playing it to everyone.
In fact, buy it, all of you buy it now. Its been out for a while (even though the graphics dont look old at all, tis stunning stuff) so its fairly cheap and its really enjoyable to play. Easily a 90%'er.
/me reinstalls it, cant believe I forgot about it.
Now that we take time to think of it, combining RTS and FPS is a very old but unpopular idea. Battlezone, TeamFortress2, and Renegade (in a way), are names that comes into mind (never heard of savage though). Even so, Natural-Selection is still a pretty original mod from my point of view.

I used to play Allegiance extensively as Rodent Missile. heh heh. Heres the thing about the NS commander mode. In tribes or allegiance, a player could play without a commander and still live. It wasnt necessary to have one. Admittedly, in allegiance, you needed one to research, but any player could do as he pleased without listenign to the commander. In Allegiance, I never once received a waypoint telling me where to go. In Natutal Selection, the commander is your lifeline. Without a commander, the marine team lapses into a deathmatch with a bunch of shmucks with Light Machine Guns dying left and right. The commander gives them health, gives them ammo, gives them guns, and gives them upgrades. Without these, the marines WILL die to an alien team. The difference is that Natural Selection is the only game which will work because it is the only game that enforces team work. It is in the best interest, no it is necessity, for the player to work together. The commander is easily 50% of the factor in the teams success or failure. Without him, the marines will not last a minute. You cant last very long with 10 ammo in your pistol and 25 health . . . Also, natural selection's seettign is completely unique. The feel and style is totally different. It is the only crop of these games that has one team whose gameplay is COMPLETELY different than the other. It has Aliens. And, let us not forget that there are absolutely no shortcuts taken in the principle of complete Human Control. No resource collecting ships or automated buggers (as was emntioend on the savage site and as is placed in allegiance). Not to mention it will be coming out sooner than any of its competitors and is FREE FREE FREE! And it has shottys. <!--emo&;)--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=';)'><!--endemo-->
Are you talking about the movie that demonstrates NS's particles and commander view? That's not an in-game movie. It's just to show the tech-heads what they can do.
The game would need an in-game movie. A promotional movie, though...
Hey, MonsE, have you considered making a trailer-like promotion film for NS? Maybe just a short teaser, even?
Maybe I should head to the ideas forum...

hmmm IMHO there has not been a completely original game since the first one was made, if it were completely original they would have to call it something other then a game, granted many many new concepts have been developed and modified and so on, but deep down its still a game and its still about having fun... just my thoughts
