Since I don't know Naraku's father, so I won't try to have a psychological analysis of his way of thinking. But I would like to say that, like most parents for today's players, he must have grown up in a different environment than ours.
I mean, my parents have grown up in an environment in wich computers (and so, computer games) even didn't exist.
I spent the first part of my youth without any computer thing either, but when I got my first own game console -this good old NES it totally changed my life. -oh well, I have to say to be perfectly honest that I had my first glimps to video games with my brother some time before that with a "computer" called VG5000 that allowed you (from time to time) to play to games like pac-man or US Rally recorded on... audio tapes! maybe some guys here know what I'm talking about... Oh, maybe it can help to say that I'm 21 now (heh, still a n00b of the real-life thing I would say^^)
Young people today are growing up in a very different set of events too.
The fact is, chances are that I won't let my children play to games like (an hypothetical) NS 2010 like that. But I won't coldly and helplessly forbide them to play to it either. I think what should be done is monitoring. I think in the USA today, -but be sure it's the same sorry thing everywhere else, most parents don't have the time/feel the need/wish/sense the importance/etc of spending some time educating their children, while that's what parents are supposed to do. Instead, they rely on school to do (all) the educational stuff for them while they are away (schools are basicaly meant to give children degrees you know, even if it's true that in practice it will develop some of your social skills and you'll learn alot about life there). And if there is a problem, they blame. And since video games are the new top distraction for their lovely progeniture, and since it's easier than taking responsability, they blame video games.
Well, don't forget that most of them actually never played to video games in their youth. Most of them may even never have played any later too. So if they don't know what it is, (and that it is harmless, since it's only only a game) how do you want them to understand it? Casualy, people are afraid of what they don't understand, and/or what is different. That's a matter of fact. Video games are no exception. And if it involves your child, (your "very own flesh" like the mother of some friend of mine use to say) I somehow understand that they may want to protect you from it. But maybe they do it in a not quite adequat fashion (i.e. access forbidden to NS). Well there's no ready-to-use solution to this problem, but if you can get your parent to know little by little video games, they may enjoy it and even play with you. Maybe you should try to make them play to games like Bomberman first and then "upgrade" to fps-style games. In clear, educate them For the people out there who find it silly, let me tell you that even if you don't have good relationship with you parental units, it may help to tighten the ties between you and them. Video games have this "elite" power, I mean it Just don't rush them, and be patient. It takes some times to lose bad habits (and pesting against video games is a bad habit, like smoking -yeah, I don't smoke, so I can't really tell^^).
If you guys who are around your 21-31 look closely, you've grown up with the video games industry. Most likely, like me, your first video games were donkey kong, sonic, mario bros., zelda... In those early times, video games were about having fun, for the major part. They aimed for this goal because of the hardware limitations. But it didn't repelled us from having fun with those and saying "Whoaa! this [insert old school game name that you really enjoyed here, like Metroid ] thing is really cool!"
But since that time, systems have changed, and like in NS, evolution was the rule in video games industry. Little by little, things, graphism in major part, become more realistic, and the upgrade of the processors and other computer chips allowed video games creators to do things with a greater flexiblity. Games oriented themselves less on the fun part and more on the simulation part (for a big part of games genres). I don't know if you remember the controversy created by games like Doom or Wolfenstein when thy came out. At this time, people couldn't imagine such a thing. Hell! Today we have this Dead or Alive Beach (...) Volley thing or the BMXXX thing! Vice City is a big deal for the media but most gamers dont understand why, (same thing could go for NS). But we've been educated through the process of assisting to the long (short?) evolution of video games. We all know it's only virtual entertainment but I think it helped to have played to these good old games in our early years to help us take some distance.
Now take today children, or children of our next future. When we were playing at Mario Bros. at the same age, they will play games photo-realistic in a all 3D environment complete with interactivity and 3000 people online all around. And it will be normal for them.
Well, what I mean is that I can understand fear for them to not well understand the demarcation line between reality and virtuality since video games will become more and more realisitic (just look at how somptuous HL2 will be and wonder on what later games will look like). Imagining CS 2010 (well I dont think il will be that far away, but I like the terminaison^^), where people you shot will have each one a different real-life looking face, will have real-life looking death face expressions etc; imagining my 10 year old kid playing to this game... I find it a little bit disturbing... A little bit because I know (well, I wish) that I'll be there to explain him the difference between real and virtual, I hope that I'll be next to him to show him it's just a game (and I hope I will be able to match his skillz too^^).
This may seem to be awkward, but I'll tell you that: As a supervisor at school, one of my friends heard this conversation between 8-10 year old kids: "Hey! you know that there is cocaine at this place?" "Oh yeah? Cool! I'll take a look then on my next trip while killing cops" "Yeah killing cops is great! I always try to kill at least tow or three of them with a gun before an assassination!" or something like that. He quickly guessed that they were talking about GTA, but he told us that by the time he realised that, we should have seen the expression of surprise on his face. because the situation looked totally weird and unreal. Well, now imagine that those kids spend hours and hours playing to this games or violent games without any monitoring from anyone (Parents? "heh! school will take care of this! that's why I pay so much money for, right? And this money, I got to earn it somehow, so I don't have the time right now, ok?"). We can say anything we want, but kids are kids. They just can barely take the distance from something on their own. That's not a blame, it's just normal. What I think is not, is letting his child like that, all by himself. And I do agree, a chance that he doesn't go on the street and try to find other kinds of "entertainments".
Well now, I got to say that I've made my own education pretty much on my own (parents had to earn that damn money you know, what I can't blame ) but still, I think that I'm a somehow well equilibrate guy (or not too much desequibrate guy, depending on how you see things) So goes life ^_^
So now if you may excuse me, I got to get completely naked before I get out to doom people's day by some good cursing speech while revealing to the world my "elite" army of undead cooking-trained warpigs (those who have watched the movie **** may know how nasty a bunch of pigs is ) and my +10 Boomstick of Desperate Despair of Desolation
But only after a good base recovery on NS though
PS: I'll try to do shorter posts from now on -because it takes too much on my playing time

BAAAAAAAD example RL violence = bad, sex(uality) = good and besides, the most racist & sick games I've ever seen are 10+ years old.
And on a related note: I'm actually getting somewhat tired of seeing violence everywhere. In music, games, movies, the news, my newspaper, everywhere. Don't get me wrong, I don't believe in censorship so people should be able to see & do what they want, but it's kind of depressing to see that the number one source of entertainment is seeing other people suffer. :/
