Framerate Issues Around Marine Structures

OK I am having SERIOUS FPS issues in NS 2.0 <!--emo&:angry:--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/mad.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='mad.gif'><!--endemo-->

When I played 1.04 I got around between 45 50 FPS around the marine structures, 50-75 without them on screen. Now, in the presence of ANY marine structures, no matter how few, my FPS drops from 50(without them) to anywhere between 2.3 and 5.6 FPS. This problem only happens to me when I am a marine, it doesn't affect me when I'm an alien, and it really REALLY annoys me because I can no longer play comm, build resource towers, or communicate with my team mates using the Voicecomm Channels, since they can only hear a few broken up sounds of my voice. Should I just reinstall NS, or do I have to go into the console and reduce the detail level? I'm upgrading my computer from a 32 bit 3D card to a 128, and from 128 RAM to 640, will that help me out at all?

If you have an ATI video card, make sure you have trueform turned off. I think it's "ati_npatch 0" in your config.cfg.

Well what I have is the POS 32 bit nVidia TNT2 that my computer came with, and I'm upgrading to a GeForce 4 to play games like Stalker, Hitman2, Morrowind 3m Half-Life 2, etc, so the ATI thing prolly wont help but I will try.

i have that exact same problem... i have an nvidia card, and that ati_npatch 0 didn't help... i have used fps_max 100, and also turned off vsync...
my fps usually goes down to 4 when i'm on marines, regardless of structures, alien is fine though.

any other suggestions? i'm really sad i can't play marines on 2.0... i feel i am missing a lot.

SUCCESS!!!

After numerous (5) reinstallations of NS, I have acheived an FPS of 23-29 around marine structures! I reccomend to the guy that posted before me to try that too.
