The ns pamphlet

Better than releasing the manual early
I was putting all the stories in the NS playtester stories thread into a notepad (call me analretentive, dont care) when I suddenly thought that other people may like it...
It occured to me that a good thing to do we be to create some kinda 'press pack' with pictures, a description of the game, PT stories etc. It could be downloaded easily by everyone, it would mean that everyone gets to hear about NS without some reviewers daft criticisms and it wouldnt be that difficult either.
I thought Id suggest it as we have loads of screenshots that would be perfect, we have loads of stories, we have all the descriptions etc. I would suggest doing it in a HTML file because that would be the best way to read it, I would have done a basic version myself but unfortunately Im nowhere near good enough.
I can help with any writing or articles or something. Am hapy to compile the information etc and I actually can write correctly although it doesnt seem like it on the forums (it sounds good in my head but looks terrible on digital paper).

I figured this would be better than releasing the manual early as it wouldnt swamp possible NS'ers with too much detail and scare them off. Instead it would be an advert which has all our love for this mod in it.

I got all the stories on wordpad but was to selfish to share.

Sounds good.

I LOVE your Idea, CMEast!
I'm not good enough in English, but I can help with the desing/artwork and perhaps a german translation...
Another good idea would be to compile it to PDF, that's a very common format and it looks damned professional too

Does the term, WORLD WIDE Web mean anything to you?

The 'net's for everyone.
• RamsesRamses Join Date: 2002-05-21 Member: 642Members
Yes smokemasta, but unluckily many people are just too lazy to read such a long thing (well, more than 3 lines are called "long" by some people ) in a foreign language.
[edit]
NS is ment to be for young people (12+ i tink) also, and some of those kids perhaps aren't good enough at english. that's not their fault. The only thing that isn't good are BAD translations.

The INTERNET was invented by Al Gore, thus making it inherently American and therefore English.
• Sgt_XSgt_X Join Date: 2002-03-01 Member: 261Members
Well the Americans did do the initial stuff but it's World Wide now, so translations are good, as long as their hand done, no translation software plz.

Hey guys, don't let argue about the language of the net, we all want that Natural-Selection gets popular enough to become retail.
It was just a small -offer- from me to translate a PR-Pamphlet into german cuz german is the language i write best. It's not a must.
[edit]
Wait, not ALL want that NS goes retail, so forget that sentence...[/edit]

Well, if you people plan on getting this thing out soon, I propose that we get a leader. And so, I officially nominate...SOMEONE ELSE! Yes, folks, I shall volunteer my writing and editing skills, but I have not the patience, nor the time, nor the natural leadership abilities needed to get this thing on track.

So, someone needs to step foward soon to get this thing done. In the meantime, how about some layout proposals from anyone visualizing it?

-Ryan!

right, HAS ANYONE GOT ANY WEB DESIGNING SKILLS?

I want this idea to work, think it would be great but noone official seems to have seen it

we have the community talent and people willing to do stuff

Im willing to organise but we need someone who can put the whole lot together, I dont mind people sending me stuff they want in, I can get all the stuff together (though I have a 56k so pictures may take sometime) but we need someone who can make it pretty.

I dont wanna put words in MonsE's mouth so this is just what im thinking

I think MonsE is making a press pack and is emailing all these game server companies so when NS releases we will have places to play right away. MonsE, if I am wrong get a whip and put me in my place..
• FreemantleFreemantle Join Date: 2002-06-16 Member: 783Members
You've been whipped.
• RamsesRamses Join Date: 2002-05-21 Member: 642Members
As already said, I think I've some design-skills and I am willingly to help. The only problem may be that I'll be on vacation from 30th July for 2 1/2 weeks.
Also i think we should hear what MonsE, the OFFICIAL PR-guy thinks about this before we get started...

Thanks for the offers Freemantle and Ramses, will take you both up on it if Monse gives the OK.
Would prefer if someone more suitable led this thing but only because Im a student and so naturally terrified of responsibilities and deadlines.

Sounds like a good idea, but how long will it take? Because if it takes too long the mod will be out and it wont matter any more Btw, whoever talked about NS going retail: BLAH! Retail is the worst thing for a community for two main reasons: 1) Is that the community gains a bunch of people who dont care about the mod 2) Is that it no longer allows the developers time to add onto their creations. If you need a example, look at CounterStrike.

I dont think it will take too long.

The material just needs collating, it all exists. Then we just need an intro and there we go. Send it to all the relevant sites and then everyone downloads it. (thats the plan anyway)

I can make icelandic translation, tho pretty much everyone in Iceland speak english.
• SonoSono Join Date: 2002-01-26 Member: 105Members
If you want to do translations let me be part of it.
(I want to be in a credit somewhere of something)
I don't know you Ramses, but I think you can do the job.

For any German translations, the guys should be Ramses, me and Nemesis Zero, as Nemesis is pretty good in English to German and reverse speaking stuff. (Weird sentence I know)

I don't want to rain on this thread, as it's a great idea, and I love seeing people get excited and involved in NS. The only issue is, I have a presspack already created (with materials that you guys don't have access to yet), and a spreadsheet with 3000 email addresses of websites, leagues, clans, LAN parties, and other groups. It's a project I've been working on for a about a month, and it's pretty much ready to roll. It covers about 250,000 total players of HL and other games who we think will like NS.

So...

Ok guys, I think this is a clear think: no reason for the community to do it anymore since a "professional" has done it already and as MonsE said:
He can get more material and more information and has a HUGE list of adresses to send it to...
I'm happy that this idea get realized
• CMEastCMEast Join Date: 2002-05-19 Member: 632Members
I would be upset that all my plans were ruined but all I can do it cheer because we have a press pack
Its almost certainly gonna look better than anything i can organise.
