Squads

So far I haven't really seen much useage of squads. I was comm yesterday and I said "squad 2 go to hera". Well that was the most use I've seen out of squads yet. The reasons for this being
- Too hard for comm to locate his squads
- Too hard for marines to locate their squadmates
Sure you can look at the mega minimap to see who's in your squad but most people would much rather just be able to see their squads right infront of them as they walk around.
So say we could do something like this, make each squad number 1-5 have a colour. For example, squad one is red, squad 2 is blue and so on. These colours are the same for every NS game so you learn it once and you know it forever.
- For commander, he would see all his marines with a little icon above their head in the squads respective colour.
- For marines, they would see an icon above only their squadmates head in the respective colour.
This makes it already easier to keep track of squads, and gives a new meaning to "Stick together team!"
One other thing that could be found more useful is to have a 3rd type of chat option, squad chat. A chat option where only your squadmates and commander can hear you.
Finally something to make this even better it to have squad leaders elected by the commander. The purpose is to make a comms life easier, the commander can only tell his team where to go but you need to be down on the field to actually see the best thing to attack. Comm can't be everywhere at once. This is obviously a better option for clans and server regulars as they'll know their team and who can be a squad leader better than anyone else.

EDIT:: Also, on the grunt marines mini map, all his squadmates as well as his-self are displayed in green, and all other soldiers in white. Squads can keep track of themselves, no problem at all. Find more features of the command mode.

I already know all that, but what I was saying was to make it easier.
After 100s NS 2.0 Games I played, there were only 2 games when commander used squads.
I tried to use squads, but they were all getting splited.. gah
Perhaps as grunt the hud color could change to represent what squad you're in...?
Or just some colored icon in hud? Maybe that health circle could be colored to represent squad?
And an icon above the head of squadmates would be cool.
Minimap could show colors for different squads as well (it presently only shows own squad right?).
Just pushing ideas around in my head...
That planetside idea with showing info abot squadmates sounds nice...
This color thingy could be great.
I am for anything that will make teamplay easier. You shouldn't have to look at minimap to locate your squad.
On ground level it shouldn't make that much of a difference, but it would make life infinitely easier for any
comm that decides to use squads, by being able to determine squad locations by minimap.

I have never, ever been put into a squad (well, once, but that was by a newbie comm that didnt even
know what a shotty is). Why do comms find it so hard to use? I usually sort up 3 or so squads.
Usually 2 in each squad, of which one ALWAYS rambos off. <!--emo&:(--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/sad.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='sad.gif'><!--endemo-->
Perhaps this way I could at least find out where the rambo went...and then drop a tf on him >)
