Sorry, you don't do more damage by jumping and biting them. Biting does a fixed amount of damage. But it is wise to jump around. What ever you can do to make yourself an harder target to hit is a good thing.

Thats the most basic strat, also confusing! I usally just cloak, hang in a darken area by the rine spawn. Then kinda chuckle to catch there attention. They come looking for a little skulk to thrash around. Kinda let them walk past you. Attack from the behind, is unhonerable. But who here is trying to win a iron cross.

I don't know if it is just me, but it seems that it is easier to hit a marine with the bitegun in certain parts of the body - and the legs simply aren't as successful since: 1. the marine will try jumping, and you end up being his foot towel, 2. you'll be losing track of where you are, as the marines are tall and legs are too small to always account for.

Most important thing has always been how you approach a marine. Don't rush down the hallway. Yes, you have more life, but you're not invincible and unless the marine is a horid shot, you'll get cut down even with your carapace/celerity. You'll want to be in melee range before the marine can start emptying the lmg into you.

SO what I suggest is, whenever you're attacking a marine, try to look at his chest so you don't get lost. The mid-body section is a good target.

Don't attack from one side only. Always keep moving, avoiding the boomstick. Climb all over him, don't let him get a lock. Then if you don't kill him quickly, he'll probably miss and lose both his lmg and pistol clips. Then he will try to knife you out of desperation, in which case you don't attack if you're low on health and just parasite him to death.

Ancient strategies still work with some luck, like the marines not checking hiding spots, going rambo, not being able to aim.

The most important thing as skulk is to know what's going on around you. Scent of fear helps, as it tells you where the marines are and how far apart they are. If I see a group of marines clumped tight as ... something really tight, I'll go in, bite, circle, bite, repeat til done <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->. If they're spread out and are more distant from each other, run like all freaking hell. Finally, I love taking out the occassional vent/elevator/dumb rambo. With scent of fear, you'll know their exact position, and you'll get the head start. Even marines with motion tracking can't track your exact position, so they'll be dead before they realize what's happening. Nonetheless, be eractic in your movements even in those roof ambushes. Don't get cocky, it's all too easy to get killed.

Ok, seriously now <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.natural-selection.org/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->. Here are some tried and true skulk tips:

1: Holding down the bite button is usually a good way of getting yourself killed, since you can't see your target. Only bite what you're going to hit.
2: Do not jump up at your targets. All you do is put yourself directly into the line of fire. You don't do any more damage. If you have trouble with this, unbind your jump key (I do that, sometimes).
3: Do not run directly at your targets. Always aim to stay alive first, and kill target second (as opposed to "kill target in the shortest possible time").
4: Do not zig-zag. You'll cross their stream of fire every time, and inevitably you will get killed. Spiral instead.
5: When to use parasite: use it on structures all the time to show your teammates where the marines are building, but only use it on marines who you do not intend to kill. You'll just give your prey advance warning.

It is care if you have cloaking level 1, 2 or 3, the marines will see: <span style='color:red'>Enemy: ''YOUR NAME''</span>, when they aim at you!!
So do not stay to long with cloaking in front of those marines.....

Hug the roof, don't move, wait for them to pass, then bushwhack them.

If you run right at them, and jump, then you're the biggest slowest target with the most predictable trajectory.

If you can ambush, you 90% of the time get one good bite in, which usually means you only need 1 more to finish the job <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->

Well, someone go report it to the bug board.

Anyways, back to the main topic. I also find that that you have to worry about Marines glancing up to the minimap, even if it is LOS, since a red blip's easier to see then you hiding in that dark corner. What you really need is to get into a position where you will be coming at them from behind. Even without silence, It's hard to hear the click-clak of skulk feet.

If if you're going to camp, STAY STILL! Don't keep adjusting your position. Motion tracking is just that: motion tracking.

also, its easier to hit a marine in the middle of their back /// the jp hitbox is on the reg marine model fyi,

    just a thought

If you're going to engage a marine head on, here's the general idea:

    Avoid getting hit.

How do you do this? Lots of ways, but here are some I use:
    1) Stay on the ground <i>most</i> of the time. Not all, not bunnyhopping like the energizer bunny, but stay on the ground MOST of the time.
    2) Jump when they expect you to walk, walk when they expect you to jump. For example, obstacle coming up, they'll expect you to jump over it... Instead, stop, turn, and go around it, throw off their aim.
    3) Control the action. Try to maneuver them into corners, where they won't be able to jump away.
    4) Jump before you bite, but jump to their SIDE. Most marines side-strafe-jump to dodge you, if you jump to their side, you have a 50% chance of blocking the jump, AND you can still bite them with a simple mouse turn.
    5) Don't run around like a mad man after you miss the marine on the first hit, you'll never get a lock on them. Stop turn, and then move like mad (don't stop for long, though, or you'll be dead).
    6) Use the WALLS! They are your best friend, especially with the new skulk rotation. Very confusing for marines now.
    7) Pray.

Jumping to the side is especially handy if you can keep track of them, even at full pelt as long as they are not charging you too, you can get two bites in as you pass to the side (I find clicking rather than holding attack easier once you get the feel), it also avoids that pesky problem of ending with his gun barrel in your guts as you land on his face when you jump directly on him, plus in groups, the quicker you get weave through them so they start all shooting each other to get at you the better
  • SpazmaticSpazmatic Join Date: 2003-05-10 Member: 16184Members
Sadly, the only problem with jumping to the side is it's a gamble. I love it, but there are problems... A) As a 'rine, I jump FORWARD half the time, which means the chances of my jumping to the side you block is only 25%. B) If a 'rine jumps forward or the other side, kiss your arse bye bye. However, it's a worthwhile gamble, imho, if you're facing a group.

50% of the time (unless you are playing against a team of newcomers) if you run straight at a marine more than 10 meters away from you, you will die. Keep that in mind the next time you think about attacking a marine face on.

Silence pwnz as a skulk. Iv killed 4 STD guys rushing our main hive with shotties. I came in their back with silence, they didnt look at their mini-map and they all got pwned.

as for the rest of skulk tricks, stay unpredictable, if u look at all the tips here, its being unpredictable that describes most of it.

Sometimes its better to attacks 3 HA marines instead of running away, because they expect u to run away.
So it always depend on the situation?.
  • DeathclawDeathclaw Join Date: 2003-08-07 Member: 19172Members
Um...HAs won't expect you to attack them because you WILL die...Unless the whole group can't hit the broad side of a barn/are mortally wounded/out of ammo.
