Detecting Cloaked Structures And Hostiles

Without firing randomly or scanning
Cloaked objects aren't 100% transparant. I've not seen anyone know this yet.
You can see a slight shade where the object is.
I saw a silenced fade run towards me, cloaked.
I could slightly see some changed in the environment, and I blasted two shells into it's face, and it understood nothing since it was supposed to be cloaked.

Just in case you want to find the sensory chamber faster than knifing or firing randomly.

you most probably noticed it bacause the movement caught your eye, or you knew roughly where to look.
there is a slight difference that you can spot but you need the right lighting conditions and you need to know where to look. It also helps if there are no ocs around as they may distract you.

easiest just to get the commander to do a bit o scanning shizzle

There is a slight distortion where cloaked units are(both live and buildings).
Its not real easy to see, but its there. I noticed while walking around trying to hit the SC(low on ammo, I tend to walk around in the corners till I hit something).

Once I caught two gorges cloaked outside base. Apparently they thought they were safe with their little sensory chamber cloaking them. Boom boom, I took them both out because one of them decided to hide and not fire.

Then came the calls of hacker...

Anyhow, I catch a lot of aliens cloaked. Maybe it's because I have good eyesight, but most people don't usually catch them. I've taken out a fade or two thanks to their "omg im cloaked u cant get me" complex.

maybe you just have insane brightness, gamma & contract settings.

You sound like the one guy who called me a hacker.

"No... it's just I have gamma set to max..."

"then that's explottng omg ure not suppzed to set it to max"

... If he said what I said then hes just having a laugh at you and your "good eyesight" for having uncomfortable and unatmospheric settings.

I can see cloaked buildings and units in brighter areas. I don't have my gamma/brightness set to max either.

The whole thing about cloaking is that most people don't expect something to be cloaked in the area that they are travelling through. That's how cloaking works - you take the person by surprise. Face-on attacks in bright areas by cloaked units is just asking to get shot. Or even hiding in bright areas.

actually I can see most cloaked structures & units perfectly fine except for more dark areas.
eeeeedit: though structures can tend to be rather annoying at times so I either fire spam or use skulks to locate the sc. D:

yes you are able to see cloaked units... but what i hate the most about cloaking if that damn exploit where your name pops up as

    (Enemy): Trev

if they hold their crosshair over you... which is bull $417.

I tend to notice the movement myself.

Sometimes if you move around a light source you can see *something* that gives away towers and motionless kharaa. Even looking from left to right can reveal some sort of visual effect.

I don't think thats an exploit as such, just good eyesight.

Whenever you move your crosshairs over another player, friend or foe, their names show up on your HUD.

It shows up even if an alien is cloaked and you can't see them - I've caught a few random aliens totally by surprise this way just by covering every inch of a likely ambush area with my crosshair.

the lighting effects thing realli makes a difference in whether u may be able to spot a cloaked alien. But i know that when i play as a skulk i try to fin the darkest, most inconspicuous place to hide out and wait for a marine group.

Yes, sometimes you can notice the dif in the textures of the levels, or see some slightly dif areas.

    But there is another way...

When you run your crosshair over a player, their names are displayed. So, if by any chance, you run it over a invisibly skulk, and you get the message...fire away.

    =]

I wish I had a screen pic of it.

Well the name showing up when pointing on an enemy is bad.
This one of the reasons I liked ghost recon, one of the only games camo really works.

my buddies ati radion 9700 pro allwos him to see shadows under cloack players and building. He can allso turn down the quility and spot cloaks by jaggy distortions.
my *** geforce 4 mx can barly draw the game...

The other thing about cloaking is that particle effects doesn't show through it, so if there's a kharaa cloaked in front of an uncapped node or a smoke/mist/drip effect, it'll show up in silhouette. I've caught a few aliens camped in front of res nodes this way.

I use my flashlight and shine the whole room. Thats how I find cloked stuff. I'd write more but Drew Cary show just came on!

In my experience, if the alien in question is cloaked because of a sensory chamber, their name WILL not show up. I dunno, it's just what I've seen. If you know what to look for, you can see cloaked stuff very easily, especially if the alien is stupid and keeps looking around. It's so easy to see them when they do that.

I think the marines should have some sort of built-in scanner that only scans directly ahead. If the marine is able to take the time to actually slowly look around each area right at the crosshair, it should pick them up. OH wait.....it does that, the playername, which I think should stay in there, and I just explain how it could do it.

Cloaking works fine right now. Scensory chamber is not suppose to provide absolute invisibility, and Cloaking evolution negates MT. Cloaking is perfectly balanced right now, IMO.
