Its possible?
I saw some weapons in the RC4 screens on the floor, could the alien destroy them so the marines couldn´t use it, or infest it so they have unexecpected results (blow away while use).
Yup, 30 seconds is the current timer. So, if you die, you can quickly try and get your wepaon back (if it is expensive and good) I am horible at dumping my orders to retrive a HMG or Nade Launcher I lost. Just love them too much to not have one on me at all times!
i can see it now you die and then respawn and tell you comander you got to go get you weapons first and you do so as soon as you get them you die by the alien that was around and that happens over and over and over until the comander just gives up on giving you orders. lol j/k
It'd be nice if upper-level weapons stayed indefinitely, considering they cost the team RPs (shotguns, hmgs, grenade launchers). Would that lag the game too much towards the end? I guess it would... Maybe it's a balance issue, too?
It'd be cheap, if the marines don't make an effort to either keep their weapons off the ground (don't die) or get to them in time then they're doing the job wrong.

You mean they don't just spawn with the weapons when they're researched? They have to be bought everytime? Oh, so it's not like an RTS that way... oh well.
I have a question: How many weapons can you hold? I hope it's just primary and pistol (and maybe a melee if there is one), or else it would get a little... well.. I dunno. Strange?
As far as I know, you can carry as many different weapons as you want. However, each weapon weighs you down more and more, so if you're lugging a shotgun, HMG, grenade launcher, and a welder in addition to your LMG, pistol and knife, you're going to be very, VERY slow. And likely an easy target for aliens, especially the level 1.
to my memory (which sucks) in most rts games when your research technology related to a unit it is automaticlly updated with out extra cost of rp. Since ns is mix of the two balance is needed. Just think soon as the commander researchs G/L and the when the marines respawn they got'em, look out aliens cause the marines are gonna own it would throw the balance of the mod off

It works very well; It also forces marines to use their weapons wisely, because big guns are expensive! A nice well-mixed squad - HMGs, shotties, and a GL for buildings - makes for a very dangerous assault team.

Yeah. Each marine has a role to play in the squad. LMGers are leaders and scouts, who also can act as . . . decoys . . .against the enemy. They mix it up as well as shoot fast and small targets out of tight places. You can imagine that early fighting is quite fast and furious, with bobs pitted against LMGers. Shotguns are extremely potent against enemys at very close range, and are most effective in tight corridors or when fighting alongside a group of Grenadiers or HMGers (I love being a shotgun marine). HMGers provide that hail of fire and deadly assault firepower that is useful, and deadly when there is more than one marine spraying. A squad of HMGers can usually hold their own, but any marine squad needs at least one shotgunner turn those bobs who close the gap or drop from the ceiling into green sprayed goo. GLers provide the heavy duty firepower, and are most useful in hive assaults. GLers should never EVER travel without a companion. And to make things even better, these are not fixed to classes, they are mixable and matchable. You can turn all your marines into walking tanks, but the most successful groups are those which let each marine specialize and have them all stick together. It's great, in that it brings combined arms tactics into a mod to an extent that hasn't been really seen before. You'll see just how well it works. But . . . back to the topic. I typically find myself getting somewhat attached to my weapon (usually a shotty), but unless I respawn pretty darn quick, I don't seek it out. The whole pickupable weapon ism ost uselful when your GL squadmate bites the dust, and you pick up his gun, dust it off, slide it in your pack. It encourages teamwork in a small way, which adds up with all the other elements to make teamwork profitable and to discourage the whole "Deathmatch" style of play. It all fits together like a beautiful jigsaw puzzle.
I'll probably stick with the medium gun, medium armor and stuff. I like to stay the "standard marine"-style guy.
Okay... I see... there's going to be a drop weapon key, right? I mean, I know they say there's not gonna be any more keys beyond those used in Half-Life, but I think it'd be VERY bad if there's no "drop weapon/item" key. I might want to pass out guns if I don't want them...
Hell, maybe I could be an ammo-runner for my team! That'd be sweet. I'm mostly a support guy. I suxx0r$ at leading assaults, but I'm good at back-up, or watching the rear.
Also, will you automatically pickup weapons? I hope you can have the option of having to look at it and press use key or something, instead of automatically taking it.
That auto pick up thing might be a bad thing. Imagine this, you've got an LMG, ur running backwards firing at two s. Just then you run backwards over a recent battle ground and pick up and HMG and GL, all of a sudden you're going a lot slower so the s kill you. Maybe make it so you have to press your use key to pick the gun up.

Heh. That particular problem has been run into by myself and a few others on a few occasions.
As far as it not being like an RTS in the sense that you buy weapons, think of it this way:
You build a unit (respawn) which is both weak and boringly uniform. You upgrade him (give him a weapon or two) to customize him and then send him on his way.
The basic marine is merely a template on to which you place your grand designs.

i don't mind the auto pick up, i hate the auto switch to weapon after you picked it up (shooting at a guy with a pistol in CS nd running over an empty AK and switching to it ) i hope there won't be an autoswitch or at least a command so we can turn it off

You automatically pickup a weapon that you run over, unless you already have it or it's empty.
What would be so bad about that?
Bwhahahahaha.
