What's it like?
In NS, is the player damage akin to Day of Defeat -ish or more to the arcadeness of Frontline Force? Just wondering. Thanks.

I heard it was comparable to CS. Feel free to prove me wrong.

It ranges from nearly dod (dead on delivery) to tankesque. It all depends on what weapon is used on what person. For example in SC, marines and zerglings can die in seconds, but carriers can take massive amounts of damage.

It is much more arcadey than CS. Vaguely like a TFC, where different weaps do different damage in a dramatic way against different defenses. There are also other ways to survive attack, such as the alien 'redemption', where you receive too much damage and are instantly teleported back to a nearby hive before dying.

It doesn't bear a lot of comparison to anything you've played before, basically. Like the rest of NS.

Is there a way for the commander to recall troops? Like, teleport a group of troops out who are in trouble? I think it'd be good, as they could like, research it, then do several assaults, counting on their commander to get them out of trouble.

my vote is for no...

actually the question hasnt even really been answered yet, for all ive heard phase gates are for phasing in and Ive not heard of phasing anything out yet... it is a cool idea though. I guess he could warp then to a nearby phase gate or something like that. Hmmm whatever, who cares, just let us play the game.

I believe phase gate can be used in a manner similar to Zerg Nydus Canal from SC, u place two and they act like a teleport between the two. (Not to be confused with infintry portals which provide reinfocments) Can u back me up on this MosnE or a PT?

You got it nailed on Sgt. X. Phse gates are akin to telepoters (from one to other) and infantry portals bring the dead back to life

Oh, and uhh... don't forget, all things are subject to change. Not much change probably, this late in development, but tweaking always occurs.

Just a quick question that I don't think deserves a new thread. Like in normal Half-Life life on the cale from 1 to 100(yea right) what would the level 5's health be. That and if you take on damage then evolve to a new level will that damage still be with you?

One shot kills are unrealistic? I happen to think a bullet to the head and I would be pretty much gone. Don't know about you.

It depends on where it hits you, but chances are, you'd be out of the fight.
• RamsesRamses Join Date: 2002-05-21 Member: 642Members
When I look at a bullet and then look at my body, I think getting hit by a bullet hurts. At least for me i think it doesn't really matter where i get hit, I would just scream and perhaps run or fall down. Well, I'm no trained soldier, but I think you're not able to fight against ANYthing when you get hit by a bullet. Sure, you wouldn't die immediatly when you get hit in your arm, but you couldn't fight any longer. Or a bullet in your stomach, I don't think you would fight any longer with blood coming out of you... Or your leg, I think it hurts extremly to have a metal-cone in your bones or going through your flesh...

What i wanted to say: Nothing is more realistic than being out of the game after one hit. But realistic isn't fun always.

An M16 bullet will pass through your limbs for the most part, or penetrate your body and stop in the torso. It wont crack bon too bad and doesn't knock you off your feat. 22 Cal high velocity bullets.

Too bad for our boys in the army, the weapons they use really don't pack that much of a punch. My dad was telling me stories about vietnam, where he could unload a three round burst into and emey soldier and, depending on the location the bullets hit, that person could still charge after you.

An AK47 for example, with 7.62mm bullets, will take you right off your feet with a few rounds, crack and rupture bones, and cause more damage coming out on the other side than an M16 by far.

I'm not too sure about the M4A1 (latest issue rifle) although it uses the same bullet as an M16.

Or, something like a 357 revolver, now THAT thing will really knock you back, I've fired a few of them and the recoil of the shot alone only gives you 2 accurate shots every 3 seconds or so.

But, back on track to this topic....I've found that you really can't classify what the gameplay is like, exactly, because there are so many defense and offensive variables it's impossible to tell what each situation will be like. That's what makes part of NS so cool

Well, maybe when the commander starts to teleport his marines out, there could be like, a 5-10 second delay.

Also, this isn't to say that a commander won't have other things to do instead of keeping his eye on a small group of marines. If he does, then his base will get raped, probably.

Remember, the M16 is a more reliable weapon. It can shoot right through thin walls and trees, it has almost no recoil, and it um... r0xx0r$.

Oh come on...
EVERYONE ought to know by now that the M16 is totally unreliable (especially compared to its rival AK47). I'm not even a gun freak and I know that. (g0g0 Tales of the Gun )

oh and BTW the ak47 does all those things too
Edit: except jam

oh and for my second edit, it also costs a LOT less (less than $50 US in some parts of the world I hear)
