Yeah, For those of you who did not read my post in one the nicknames for the aliens topic. I am TheGunslingerOmega and I have arisen from the ranks of a lurker to a active member of this board. Now I am creating a collection of maps for NaturalSelection "great particle system" and well I would just like to List some of the features of my maps.

Ambient Sounds=Creaking and groaning of the buildings, Subtle sounds of rain, Hissing of pipes, distant screams for some maps.

Swinging working light fixtures

In one specific map aboard a sea vessel in the lower levels, I have spent long and tedious hours getting my bulging wall texture to move smoothly as it bulges in and out.

And of course one feature that everyone wants, BACK STORIES! Badawam! For both sides alien and humans. I have since the release of the mapping tools practicaly ever moment of my free time devoted to mapping and writing. And I hope to release my pack soon.

Thanks for listening!!

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

    Next week people, next week.

Reasoning is, Most my maps ive been working on at the same time, so I could get the pack done in time for the first release when my pack will be available at a to be announced temporary site.

All I have right now are mostly wire frames and lighting tests. Also some bugs with the much overuse random entity trigger on my maps, such as floors colapsing and then getting stuck in between levels. Once I do add textures to said wire-frames, You can expect screeni sweetness... Oh yes....mmmmmm

Between levels? You do know you can't have level over level in a map right? You've read the mapping guidelines and everything?

I didnt mean levels, I ment pieces of textures, the specific spot i am talking about is over a vent. Kinda like a soft spot in the floor collapses and deposits you in a vent where upon landing you suddenly come face to face with a bob (enemy player) its not something that would hopefully happen often but jsut enough to add a element of suprise.

umm thats what we are talkin bout... u cant have level over level...... what we mean is that u cant have a vent over or under a room..... coz the commander wouldnt see a damn in there......

It can be done, but it should be done sparingly and very carefully. For the most part I suggest trying to avoid such designs, but I also think the mapper is free to do as he wants. If you do not have NSTR2, get it, and look aorund in commander mode.

Well of course not, The vent isnt large enough to build something in anyways. And besides, Its only one map. Look at it from this view, do you remember command and conquer, When your men went under a bridge youd loose them for a moment as they travelled. These "vents" I am proposing dont fit a human unless they fall in one then they just jump out, and barely fit the aliens.

And besides, its not like im looking for my map pack to be released with the release of any of the versions of NS. I do not create my maps to be main stream, hell I don't create my maps for anybody other than me. Writing code, or designing a site, Making flash and building a world from ground up is art work, I do all of it to be creative. It helps me express myself in something much deeper than words. When I wrote games (text Adventure, graphical RPG like the original ff) It was a hobby yes, but the reason I wrote those games is I could add depth to a otherwise two deminsional story.

Blah. Anyways if I ever do release this map pack I will withdraw what we have coined "Vent". But I will not stop creating it, that would be like birthing a child for 8 months then just deciding not to finish it.

Heh, they're just trying to help.

I respect your way of doing things here... mapping just as a hobby and to express yourself artistically... but you must realize that people here assume you want the level to be the best it can, and that you have an intention of getting it "big". And... we give back comments and concerns we may have to help it get there. It's a safe assumtion to make, considering 98% of the level designers would like a shot at levelofficialness. But for those who don't, well, constructive criticism can be taken the wrong way. Hope you understand that these guys were just expressing concern here for your own benefit.

At any rate, I'm looking forward to seeing the mappack. Sounds interesting.

Well, I'm interested in seeing how he well he's done so far. Swinging lights, bulgings walls, and the wonderful entity trigger...I rarely have anything to say on these mapping forums (I don't map, can't map, and although I would love to learn, I fear stepping into something I spend hours, days, or weeks learning, only to hate it in the end), I have to say those are cool ideas for atmosphere. I say you stick some temporary textures on there, give us a quick look, and then we (as in, those more qualified than I) can help guide your setup while you work to put more permanent textures in. I'm interested in seeing what you've got!

    -Ryan!
