Mic Crash

Using mic crashes NS
System:
Epox 8KHA+ Mobo
60 gig hd
Soundblaster Audigy Gamer
GeForce 4 5200 128 meg
512 megs ram

Ns runs fine on my computer, except for one problem: using the mic causes it to crash to the desktop. I can use it occassionally, but it seems that if i use it too much, bad things happen. I'll be half-way through saying something, and i get booted to the console. At first, i thought i had been kicked, but i realized that i couldn't type anything. Also, i few seconds later, an error message pops up saying that half-life crashed unexpectedly. Anyone know what could be wrong?

Do you happen to go through a router to your internet connection?
I had the problem with the common Linksys 4 port router that NS would drop me at random intervals if I used my mic and my computer's IP was in DMZ mode. I disabled the DMZ on my computer except for specific needs, and I've yet to be dropped again.

    [EDIT]
Check out the threads about the Audigy's too. Apparently there might be something there.

I think I get this same problem. It's extremely frustrating, because I've crashed at least 8 times today, and from what I remember I get it while I spoke through the mic.

    My specs:

    Pent. 3 933mhz
    512mb
    20gb harddrive
    GeForce2 64mb GTS
    SB Live! sound card
I run in GL, in Windows 2000, no EAX I think, and I'm using the regular Halflife version.

I have a 4 port Linksys too, and I was going to ask how to disable DMZ, but as far as I know I think I have it disabled (the ip is set to 192.168.1.0). Any help with this problem would be appreciated.

Ok, most of the time a window will pop up in the middle of the screen that says something along the lines of "Error in HL.exe, etc. etc."... basically a typical Win2k program crash. It has an ok button, and when you hit it, the game closes and since it's NS crashing, all the gamma is turned up way high.

A couple times, the game would freeze and look like a comp crash, but I was still able to ctrl+alt+delete to the task manager. When I do, the gamma is VERY high. The only thing you can discern is the white background behind black text. Also when going to the task manager, Half-life isn't even on the list. After closing the task manager, the screen is completely white. The only thing I can do from that point is go to task manager, hit the windows key, then restart my comp via the start bar.

Another couple times a window popped up saying something with the words "HUD" "Sprite" and "128" but I can't remember what it said exactly. That hasn't happened in a while so I assume it's not the same problem.

I apologize for not being so accurate with the descriptions, I'm about to play some more so I can write stuff down.

    LOL!

ok, you just described like 4 known to semiknown problems

    1) the screen beeing pure white? Your brightness is turned up WAY to high in the first place. The Overbright effect of NS should only make your scrn look like it was sorta washed out, not White.
so lower your moniters brightness (you will thnak me when you moniter lasts for like another few years, turning those controlls up to high destroys the moniter). And the solution to the wash out is a simple program in your NS dir called reset gama.
If you really MUST have your gama set to high simply bind a keyboard shortcut to reset gama and you can popit off with out being able to see anytihng.

    2) the 128 sprite problem, well do a search, you will find 5+ pther posts

    3) Error in HL.exe, etc. etc dosn't help, try being slightly more specific.

Okay, I just tweaked the router DMZ setting. I'm going to go play a bit and see if this helps. I'll report back as soon as i get some results. Thanks for all the help!
