Maps included with the mod

How will they be selected?
I've been wondering for the last few days, what maps will be bundles with NS? There seems to be a pretty broad base of map designers already turning out great work, will a number of them be selected to be included with the mod, or is there a mod map designer team? Will the community be able to vote on which maps they would like to see included in the mod?

We all know how agonizingly slow the map downloads are in-game, and having to constantly download new maps during round/level rotations would be pretty frustrating, especially those with slow connections. Anyone have any ideas on how this situation will be handled?

Well, right now the only maps that are definites for inclusion are Hera and Bast, provided Merk and Relic don't decide to scrap them. They're on the team, and they're work's going in, there's no reason it shouldn't. They're maps rock. And of course it would be foolish to ship with only 2 maps. The rest will come from community contributors. Probably the main thing to look for is when these maps are finished. Right now, there's only a small few maps that have been actually completed, and some of them (mine included) certainly should not be shipped with the mod. But I don't think that there's anything to worry about. There will be a sufficient number of high quality maps to satisfy the gaming public's needs.

I just have to say, that this mod has the best mappers around i've ever seen, all the maps look great and have lot of atmosphere.Really this mod has a good community, hope it stays that way.

I have to agree wuth InterFect0r the qualitsy of maps for this mod are higher than for any other I know of - does anyone remember the first leaked beta of CS (the one with 2 guns, hostages which floated 6 feet of the ground and having to type kill at the console to respawn for the next round.) the map in that where rubbish just loads of big crates and rubbish texturs and really poor game play.

I think the quality of the maps in this game are going to be so much better because the imaginations of each mapper can really go wild with these creations. Unlike CS, where "reality" (I use the term lightly) scenarios were the norm, there are far fewer limitations on what can and can't be done realistically, because, well, it's 'The Future'!

I do have to say though, that I'm glad to see such a great veteran as R25 on the team (let alone in the community) and even though Merkaba says he's not very good at layouts, his map looks like it will be one of the most enjoyable in the game.

As for what maps ship with the game, yeah those two maps I'm sure, and hopefully a bunch of others currently being worked on by the community. Even if somebody doesn't get their map into the game itself, I know from experience that people in CS would play a map from an Official map pack just as readily as any CS original map. That is, unless they're some kind of "Dust Junkie"....

We havn't heard word from 3d_mike in a long time. Please consider ns_scorpio MIA. (Missing in action.)

Well even tho I'm the newcomer around here, I wouldn't worry about scorpio if its MIA. Browsing the other mapper's topics and pics I'd say there's more than enough very good maps to make up for the loss of one.

    Yeah I agree.

I don't know what happened to 3d_mike, if he went back to CS, or DoD or what, but ns_scorpio has been abandoned for some time now.

3D_Mike was just too busy for NS. He's a great guy and I wish the best for him. Maybe he'll be back mapping for NS in the future? I hope so.

I definitely would like to include as many high-quality community-made maps as possible. If a map's combination of gameplay and visuals make it good enough to include, we will. I'm also sure that there will be maps that we won't include that tons of people will play anyways. Maps can also evolve, so if it wasn't accepted in one version, maybe it improves enough in the future to be accepted in a later version.

Thats good because its *really* hard to imagine the game flow without actually having played

devilblocks thats the perpuse of the post called stratergy - So mappers can discuse how they think each team will play and how maps should be constructed for good "game flow" If people get in there and share their ideas I'm sure that the maps will be a lot more playable.
