Two Dumb Questions

<div class="IPBDescription">'Bout Leap, and Upgrades</div> 1) Quickly, how much damage does leap do? I've only ever killed a marine with it <i>once</i>. <!--emo&:(--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/sad.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='sad.gif'><!--endemo-->

2) How can you tell your current upgrade level? I know that 2 DCs means level 2 defence upgrades, and that the commander can research 0-3 armour and wep upgrades, but how can you tell if you have level 1, 2 or 3? I must be missing something obvious, because I see people online all the time who just seem to "know" what level the upgrades are at (and they aint the comm) <!--emo&???--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/confused.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='confused.gif'><!--endemo-->

    The *extremely* slight differences in the guns/armor. Look closely, you'll see them.

    1) Leap does 4 damage methinks.

    2) <a href='http://www.natural-selection.org/manual/front_upgrades_weapon.html' target='_blank'>This</a> shows the icons for weapon upgrade. If you look to the right you will see three pictures of a gun. The top one is upgrade level 1, middle is upgrade level 2 and bottom is upgrade is level 3. Basically, the more bad **** it looks, the more powerful it is <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo--> <a href='http://www.natural-selection.org/manual/front_upgrades_armor.html' target='_blank'>This</a> shows the armour icons.

    So how do aliens tell what level they have?

    Oh, and thanks for the Leap info. *Mental Note: Don't use leap, it REALLY SUCKS* <img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/style_images/2/icon4.gif' border='0' alt='user posted image'>

    actually leap hurts if done right

    especially in 1.04 where people with 100 fps could kill HAs in 2-3 leaps....

    and as for telling what level upgrades the aliens have....I really have no clue,especially redemption

    If you cling to a target, leap still does a fair bit of damage... Not excessive, but if you happen to be leaping around, you may be better leaping into the guy who surprised you then trying to switch to bite with the switch delay.

    Shows up on the right side... One icon means level 1, two means level 2, etc... So, if you have level 3 cara, you will see 3 carapace icons stacked on each other, but if you only have level 1, you'll only see 1.

    Leap is actually quite good. It does four damage per "touch." A touch is preformed once every 16th of a second or something. If you keep 'hitting' the guy when you use leap, you will get mega damage. Thats why you use leap in vents, because people are easy to kill, since you can cling to them easier. Leap is actually better than bite if you can land all the touches. Well thats IMHO.

    If you switch from leap to bite as you're clinging to the person, the bite is what stacks - that's crazy damage.

    btw leap is primarily used to surprise the enemy, and dodge bullets.

    Ever tried shooting a leaping bunnyhoping level 3 celerity skulk?

    Leap also does massive damage, once i killed a HA cowering in the corner from 290 Armour to 0 health in just 3 leaps by leaping down.

    Leap is also a brilliant way to surprise marines (especially if you're cloaked and they're looking in your direction) and a brilliant way of closing the distance between you and your target. Hitting a skulk that is leaping towards you is loads harder than hitting one that is running.

    Leap is definately best used to dodge stuff, and to dodge stuff best with leap leap <i>past</i> your target. If you leap right at them, there's still a good chance that you'll just get mown down.

    Leap is really used for quick movement/mobility not for attacking
  • EvoEvo Join Date: 2003-01-11 Member: 12180Members
    Yeah, screw damage per tick. Its nearly impossible (IMO) to launch a full length leap and hit a moving target perfectly so you don't slip off (I assume HL uses rounded collision cyl's, like every other game of the era).
    That and charge... still can't use charge properly, darnit. <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo-->
    Ah well. More practice I guess. Been waaaay too long since I played this game - gotta bone up on the ol' asswhuppin skills. <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->

    Thanks for the answers guys.

    rounded collision cyl's, u have to be joking, its cubes and rectangles all the way <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->

    Probably not, I haven't played as "Evo" for a while now. <!--emo&:0--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/wow.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wow.gif'><!--endemo-->
    For the past week or two (since 2.0) I was on as "Kailhasa", but no one can pronounce that over voice coms <!--emo&:(--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/sad.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='sad.gif'><!--endemo-->
    So now that I remembered my forum name (I forgot it because I registered back in 1.0x, but quit, and just came back for 2.0 <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo--> ) i'll start using that again. <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->

    Oh, and Jabba, I didn't mean bullet collision (which uses multiple cubes), I was referring to model <-> model collision, which usually uses a cylinder because its simple and reasonably accurate for a humanoid model. Im not that familiar with the HL engine though (don't like it much TBH), but thats how UT (which I lub berry much <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->) worked.

    Who told you its for surprising? I use it mid-fight all the time if they guy keeps running off after I get a bite in(on HAs. For some odd reason, I can take one usually when he's on his own...must be the payoff from playing 16 hours a day all summer.).
