Hello all.
Because of max_patches, i used the options -sparce either -chop 96 to compile my map ns_alone, but every time I meet myself with half of my entities invisibles.
There isn't anything to do, it is every time the same matter.
And i really don't understand
So i come to you, and hope you'll be able to help me.
The map is finished and i'm really sad thinking in stoping it now.
Many thanks in advance
( of course i use the excellent xp-cagey tools )
IAN ( sorry if i'm bad speacking..i'm far from you)

A plane is an infinite 2d - object.
All faces are drawn on that planes.
2 faces of 2 different solids can share the same plane.
The final .map file sadly includes MANY unused planes of faces that are outside of the map and that have beend deleted, but the planes stiull waste memory.
With optplns.exe you can cut off thoose unused planes wich makes your map about 1mb smaller and increases the real plane limit to whatever you want it.
Cageys tools have an adition that makes it possible to have max_map_planes, the plane limit, set to almost infinite.
You will never see max_map_planes again, max_map_clipnodes comes way earlier.
But this xp-cagey adition only makes sense when you use optplns.exe on the final .map file.
If not, the planes/surfaces of entities will "just not be displayed", first, later the map crashes on loading it.
Does that mean if you have 3 rooms in alignment, then there is only one plane used for all the walls that align?
like this:

By the way, IAN-SDZ, that's quite a nice looking map you have there
To answer to you ChromAngel, a part of some entities is invisible at a distance and when i'm just near it, this is the same.
I took sceenshots:

I'm really interested with Ollj answer, but i really would like to learn more about optplns.exe. will you have a moment to explain me how i can use it. With batch compiler only? ( i use ZHLT GUI with xp cagey tools actually )
Many thanks again for all.
Thank you carbon14, if i manage to finish the map, i hope you will all enjoy playing on it.
OR JUST drag the yourmap.bsp file icon over the optplns.exe file icon and your yourmap.bsp gets overwritten with the optimized version in one second.
The latest batch compiler (Ryan Gregg) supports optplns.exe in its grapical user interface saving you a klick.
Many tests with friends on the map and i will soon realease it in a new thread.
Be sure that Ollj and xp-cagey will be on the thanks.txt of the map
/me happy
