Why Does Everyone Think...

that redeeming devour is unbalanced?
Personally, I don't see how redeeming devour is unbalanced in any way. I mean other then making someone wait 30 seconds to be devoured... you take out one person. I would call it luck if an Onos came in and devoured someone. Would you rather an Onos charge in and kill 4, 5, even 6 people in one go? If anything, they should just speed up devour (ie. 20 seconds).

Flame away.

Because the onos cannot die with devour + redeem.

Onos runs in, grabs HA, teleports back to base, heals, goes back, grabs HA, teleports back to base, heals, grabs HA, teleports back to base, heals, goes back, grabs HA, teleports back to base, heals, goes back, grabs HA, teleports back to base, heals, goes back, grabs HA, teleports back to base, heals, goes back, grabs HA, teleports back to base, heals, goes back, grabs HA, teleports back to base, heals, goes back, grabs HA, teleports back to base, heals, goes back, grabs HA, teleports back to base, heals, goes back, grabs HA, teleports back to base, heals, goes back, grabs HA, teleports back to base, heals, goes back, grabs HA, teleports back to base, heals, goes back, grabs HA, teleports back to base, heals, goes back, grabs HA, teleports back to base, heals, goes back, grabs HA, teleports back to base, heals, goes back,

which just devours the entire marine resource pool as well. You only have a 1 in 10 chance to even MAYBE kill the onos.

edit- I did this just to see how well it was. I got a total of 75 HA kills before they killed me.
Now, the HAs have.... 20 res armor, 10-15 res weapon, 5 res welder

to keep it between the 10 and 15....
    75 times 37

that's 2775 res gone from one onos....which costs 100 res.

I would think, if an Onos got redeemed while devouring someone, the Onos would go back to the hive and the marine would pop out where the Onos redeemed from with whatever health he had left.

Maybe just lower the chance of redeeming while devouring? (from 90% to say 40%?)
    And not remove redemption completely?

thats not a solution to unkillable onoses, you need to make them killable somehow

Redemption is about how much hp you have, and how much more time you got to survive at the current rate of fire. I know in 1.04 it was 5 seconds, and if the onos redemps and is devouring, how are you going to capture your teammate? If there is 3 hives, u gotta goto 3 or 2 hives in 1 minute or less to capture him. ono + Redemp + devour = unbalanaced.

The problem is when you get into league play. It's already hard enough to get HAs into play (when the alien team knows how to work together), so you finally get a not-quite-perfect HA train and you try and do some damge. Here comes mr onos and takes out one of your 3-5 HAs and then redeems. The loss of even one HA is quite crippling on a train like that. In pubs however, the aliens don't tend to work together as well and it gives the marines side a chance to have heavy trains with like 5-8 or even more HAs. The loss of just one isn't as bad, plus so much fire goes into the onos it often times can't redeem in time when there are so many shooting at it. At first I thought devour redeem was fine, but after playing a lot of scrims in 2.0, it has extremely crippling effects. Actually it wouldn't even be half as bad if the HAs had a chance to avoid the onos. It just walks in, stomps, and then has a perfectly still marine to take.

It's not the fact that is unballanced, but it is DAMN annoying

Well, let's think about it, there are few ways you can kill a running onos with redemption. You need to deliver alot of damage quickly. We can toss out the shotgun because it doesn't have enough range, the pistol is too weak. The HMG might work, but it's not fast enough in delivering damage so it would probably just make the onos redeem anyways. The GL might work, but you would probably have to hit them with every nade.

    See the problem ?

Blargh, maybe because it prevents a marine from almost ever be rescued. Oni shouldn't be such sissys and actually get something like regen and be real men/women

am i wrong in saying that in one of the most recent patches oni can no longer redeem if theyre in the middle of 'snacking' ?

which might be the solution to this annoyance.

yeah lets drop redemtion to 40% so thats its ussless like it use to be.
If you earn/save 100 res as an alien you DESERVE a good high probiblity upgrade. When you redeem a onos your basicly taking it out of the game for a 1-2 minutes while it regens and returns. Marines fanboys would never stand for permantly loosing HMGs and GLs that fall on the floor after you die, Aleins should fight this kinda nerf.

What should be fixed is that the marine you have devoured should be spit up when you recall; as the way I see it you basicly "killed" the onos. Hell I would even give the marine team the RfK for it.

I find that the redeem onos is just an overgrown fade, and even if it can get some hits in before it has a chance to redeem it will hvae to have celerity or be charging to get close enough to a group of lvl3 lmgs or a few shotgunners. I rarely go onos, instead I usually spend the res on dropping oc and dc for an alien outpost, it is much more usefull. Even though I do go onos sometimes, I never get redemtion, as I see it only a good upgrade for gorges or the paranoid fade, but instead I will get celerity and regen, allowing you to do hit and runs on marine bases in quick succession allowing them almost no time to grab ammo for their fancy new shotguns.

Onos cannot redeem while devouring in beta patches (starting from 2.01a)

But I'll have to agree it is annoying....I'd rather charge in instead of devouring

    EDIT : Fixed a misleading word....hehe ^^;

#include put the point across, if perhaps a bit over the top. Redeeming onoses can be a very frustrating thing since it can makes aliens turn around a losing game to a winning rather brutally, and in my opinion a bit unfairly.
