<div class="IPBDescription">Writen while map compiled (part 1 of 7)</div> "****!" I whispered. My flash light had just cut out, and down here it was seriously dark. Everyone else's flash lights had already run down, and mine was the last. Behind me, there was a tensing of muscle as everyone prepared to taste combat, or as it was more likely - fall down a big hole.
"Okay everyone sit down where you are! While our HUD's are off line, we can't explore in the darkness, and no one wants to die by falling down a lift shaft." There was a glint of light shining off commander Richards Standard issue Light Machine Gun. He was waving it about like a conductors stick.
"You sittin' down sir?"
"I'll Find a way out of here. You all stay tight, and if you can - find a toilet too, I'm busting." With that Richards was off into the darkness. I wondered if anyone else spotted the light of his gun, or if it was just me. But something about it wasn't right. I drew out my knife as a gun would do more damage than good in this darkness.
I stabbed where I thought the floor was, and my knife plunged into soft flesh. The other marines heard the slice, and then smelt whatever juices had poured forth onto the floor.
"Nick! You stinky ****, can't you give a break?"
"Hey it wasn't me! At least, not this time!"
"Guys shuttup I think I'm onto something. You've all read the frontiersmen documentation haven't you?" There were a couple of grunts and derogative mumbles but I knew they'd all read it more than once. "Well This could be one of those alien chambers. Luckily it's not an attacking one, but what should we do about it?"
Farsons, who'd been in combat before this misson decided to give me my answers. "Leave it. You keep knifing that thing, and this place will be swarming. You know about the alien vision network?"
"It's part of the documentation," I said. No one liked Farsons, his veterans arrogance got on our nerves.
"Well they all know it's been attacked, whatever it is. Just leave it."
Moments passed. Creaking pipes and pressure valves resonated though the facility just like they would anyother day, as the ships computers were still running lifesupport systems. The sounds had never been worse. Our heads all turned in the dark, like a tennis match, everytime something made a noise and-
"Yaaaa!" Gen lost it and fired four rounds into the darkness. As the rounds rolled around the floor grating, Gen immediately regretted what he'd done.
No-one spared much time thinking about it, as our HUD's all came on, one after another. Blue faces lit up in the black sea.
Richards was speaking in my ear. "I've managed to get the control hub working again. I see you are all okay. Good. I'll direct you from here, and your HUD's should provide enough light for you to avoid and undesirables."
