Is Grenade Spam Exploiting?

Devs? PT/Vets? Anyone?
As you may or may not know, in 2.0 holding +use and +attack while facing an armory with a full grenade launcher results in about 1 grenade per second being fired. Is this an exploit, or is this intentional behaviour? I've been whinged at on a few servers about it now, and I wanted to hear someone official's viewpoint.

I've noticed a delay in firing when doing this from the gernade launcher while reloading from the armory.

I did not notice this delay in 1.03.

    This seriously isn't an issue.

I prefer to think of it as: "A last resort".

The dev team knows about it, if it is an exploit, it'll be fixed in the next official patch, I'm sure.

    Edit:

Hell... I like to use it, and even I admit it can be pretty cheap.

The armory loading the main clip has always been in. Then taken out for this very reason. Then for some reason it's back. So meh

EDIT: Actually maybe it was put back in because having to reload twice got a bit annoying. because when iot didn't load the main clip and you had 0/0 you would pick up 25 bullets and then reload and then pick up another 25 and reload again adn then proceed to max outn your bullets to avoid that mess again.

Really its not like they've got an armoury next to your hive and grenade spamming with it (if they do then shame on you aliens you deserve it). Hell Its just an advantage to being in your homebase when im alien I have the advantage of being cloaked and getting healed all the time (decent amount of def chambers makes attacking a base with an onos in it very hard ) Its a last resort and not used all the time I've seen worse like the 2 fades trick. Get 2 fades give em adreniline and 3 hives and and constant stream of acid rockets can be placed on the IP very very very very effective .

We did. And HA, and a nice farm with siege. Having said that, they had a couple fades and onos in there too, which we really didn't want getting close. I still don't think it's an exploit, but I really didn't want to get banned on one of the few Australian servers

Um... lets put it this way.

Grenade spam is what won CAL's first 2.0 tourney. :/

Please, for the love of god, make it so armory don't fill into marine's guns... please?

wow a couple of fades and onos with a gorge could waste almost any crew of players be them a welder or **** mostly because if they are building that close to your base to seige you can get a sensory up and wait till they put down a TF and take them therefore making them waste that res

We trained up properly. There were a couple shotties, a couple HMGs and I was the guy with the nade launcher. We all had HA.
I agree we should have been steamrolled before we started building, but iirc there was a diversionary push on the other side of the map at the time.

geez, its a game, the marines are already losing 7-8/10 games, cut the last standers who have the potential to go down fighting some slack i mean its thier time they are wasting by sitting there

Grenade spam is a last resort tactic. The bad thing is if you get a 'alien team' onus rush, it doesnt work.
  • MagiTekMagiTek Join Date: 2002-11-02 Member: 5057Members
Infinite grenade spam is a serious issue, since it cripples the aliens' ability to finish off a bunkered-down marine team.

Fact: Oni without support die almost instantly to concentrated HMGs.
Fact: Grenspam makes affected areas completely inaccessable to any alien weaker than a Fade.

We can thus infer that with proper grenspam in place, a Lerk will not be able to follow an Onos long enough to protect him with Umbra. A Gorge cannot Bile Bomb the marine structures or heal his teammates. The Onos is rendered ineffective, and without him there is no hope of killing the marines.

Tell me friends, how would you attack a fully teched marine team holed up in Waste Handling hive on ns_tanith? Assuming turrets placed to hinder Onos movement, 6 HMG/HAs, and 4 GL/HAs spamming the hive's two entrances. In 2.0 vanilla I would have a Gorge do a suicide run to start the hive, and as soon has it came under attack the entire alien team (all Onos, ideally) would use a movement chamber to warp into the marines' midst. But with this "trick" being removed, the only option left for the aliens is to wait for the marines to attack (and they may be waiting QUITE a long time, since it would likely result in the marines being slaughtered). Total stalemate.

And before you yell "how the hell did the marines get all the res for that tech??", remember that NS games ebb and flow. The marines may have been forced into that position after an hour of gameplay or more, and slowly accumulated the res over time.

actually you can significantly soften the blow by placing dcs just outside the blast rangeand lerks can fly atop the ceiling. you cant stop the dcs as theyll never get the LoS without breaking the gren spam and perma scanning would require a series of obs that 1: can be assisnated by group attacks 2: wouldnt be placed in any sane situation you think this game would occur in.
