The Problem With 2.0

2.0 is imbalanced for this fact, and this fact only. The marines can't do two things at once. It doesn't take much effort for the marines to kill a hive, but while they do so their main base goes down. They are only capable of holding one position at a time, because if they leave it alone it will surely die.

Keep dreaming. I will be flabbergasted if 2.01 takes even a small step towards bringing the game to a balance.
You're like one of those people who gives advice like: "Deal with it." To disaster victims. Aren't you? <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo-->
It almost seems a motivation for distributed marine bases... After all, that's the reasons aliens can survive a hive hit... They have two more, and losing one set of abilities is often not enough to stop them from rampaging through your base, whereas marines have one real base, and one alone.
That said, I think there is a problem with tech time that is aggravating any other issues present... But, eh, I figure the devs have heard every perspective by now.
I suppose I have been a bit whiny tonight, sorry.
But I figured it's all been said before. And Flayra seemed to say something like he wanted comments on the features alone, something like: "I like the feature X" or "I don't like the feature Y"
He specifically said that he didn't want suggestions like: "It would be cool if you could X" or "I think you should bring back Y" and that they wouldn't be paid much attention to.
I'm gonna look for the exact post now.....

this is a mighty big claim, and you have provided nothing to back yourself up. I could say that a turret farm manned by a single marine at base would do the job, while a team of roaming HA's sweep the map. I could also say the aliens can't hold any positions, since a large group of HA marines is extremely difficult to break through with anything but 3 hives.
i don't think anyone should go around claiming that they know EXACTLY why anything is unbalanced... it's arrogant and somewhat foolish.
Really! During the long siege the marines are under, nobody learns anything. If this is over half of the match, that's alot of wasted time!
You can flame me now...
In spite of marine fanboi cries about how the world is ending, 2.0 is actually quite close to being balanced. Considering how it hasn't been out a month yet and marines are just now learning and sharing winning tactics. 1.0X was the same way. Aliens won at first, but marines caught up, and eventually surpassed them, by a great margin. Expansion beats defense, and that's how 80% of the games are played now. The other 20% (it's getting better) are comms who are aggressive. That throws aliens through a loop. Attacking res towers as a group with LMGs and pistols does the job. A rambo with a knife does not. Destroying an alien res tower costs the aliens more res then it does the marines (22 for marine, 25 for alien. 10 gorge/15 RT).
But the idea that 10 marines can't break into two groups and be effective is rediculous. If more phase gates were used, shotguns spammed at the rate turrets are now, and comms didn't think that automated defenses can stop aliens indefinitly, aliens would be in trouble.

And you should be learning something during the sieges too - that the aliens need to learn how to work together as well.
Aliens got a big jump on it because 25 res and no multiple-gorge penalty makes certain things obvious.. "Look.. I can go gorge and have 15 res.. exactly enough for an RT." The calls went up all over the place what aliens should do first. "Everybody gorge and RT", so yeah, aliens have wicked expansion.
Marines are starting to learn that, but with the exception of certain groups, really haven't gotten it down yet. Here's a game strategy to try in the next pub game: one marine grab a buddy and head to the nearest single res node. Don't even wait for the comm to get into the chair. Once you're there, give the comm half a second to drop the IP and armory and then tell him you're ready for orders at the node. If he wants to relocate, you're probably not that far off so haven't lost much. Otherwise you're in position to get the RT set up and start the res flow immediately. Res flow means upgrades, upgrades mean a better chance to win.
It always goes "ALIENS R 2 STRUNG OLOLOL"
Then it goes "MARINES R 2 STRUUNG OLOLOL"
and it repeats, and I want to kill everyone. ESPECIALLY BECAUSE THE BALANCE IS FINE. Or it WAS.
