Does bob's camera go upsidedown?

<div class="IPBDescription">Has it been implimented yet? will it?</div>When bob walks on a cieling, does his vision go all up-sidedown yet? Same thing if he's walking on a wall, does his vision go sideways? Are there any plans to have this in before the release?

Well, if they don't plan I doing it, I think they should. My reasoning is that if your view stayed the same, it would be too easy to drop down and kill marines and stuff.I remember when I played the AvP2 demo, I was always alien, cause wallclimbing was so fun (you could literally get halfway across the map with a well aimed leap and landing on a wall.). But, it was hard to get used to, with the view changing. It's very disorienting, which I think would help balance.

No, and no.  STC, but this has been discussed to death before.  It simply isn't worth doing, especially since it makes some people nauseous.  Also, the balance is fine without it.

yes, from what i understand, the fact that it makes it easier to control has been ballanced, and is probably needed now, if they changed it later they would have to rebalance the game...

(note: im obviously not a playtester, this is just how i have understood things)

After lots of playtest, I wouldn't want to have my screen turn upsidedown. The action is so fast in battles that it would just hinder gameplay.

...and back into topic and coherency: The claws will be shown clinging in the direction of the wall you are walking on (so if you are on the ceiling, the claws will be on the top of the screen).

Yeah that's news to me. Nice idea, mind.

Considering the amount of code that would probably take to put in, I think its a v1.1 idea.

I think ur confused Tycho, I know for sure that the Model that other ppl see changes to face the right way but i haven't heard anything about it changing for the player who is actuly wall climbing being put in.

    News to me once again.

Since I plan on playing the Aliens a lot, I personally very much dislike the idea of the camera changing depending on where you climb.

umm me is used to avp so it will be hard to "mutate" to this kind of camera position when climbing walls.... anyways its gonna be hella easier........
this wont confuse u sometimes when ur makin a lot of climbing.........

The model which players see, the outer shell of the player, the thing that actually -looks- like Bob will orient to the wall it is climbing on, much like a mine orients to the wall it is placed on.

The inside of his mouth, his teeth, the weapon model will not orient to the wall by initial release, unless it's easy to code. It may never.

The camera angle will probably never alter.

/me translates Mole-speak, just in case people didn't follow...

    1) If you are a level1, hanging on a wall, the floor will remain "down."  Currently your view model also does not reorient, though it might in the future.

    2) If you are looking at a level1 hanging on a wall, it will appear sideways - i.e. oriented correctly to the wall.

I was completley confused by what everyone meant until coil translated, very nice work coil you get a 5 errr... emotican limit 4 gun salute.

Hum, I just played an AvP2 demo (yes for the very first time, and wow, my computer can handle it!) and I tested out the Alien's wall climbing, though I like it and it adds to the gameplay, I wouldn't like it in NS. From what I hear, as stated in this topic, the action is very intense and you really can't be bothered moving your mouse to fix your view on your enemy during a battle.

It's good for AvP2 from what I've played due to you only having to fight a maximum of three marines at a time, but in NS you're going up against bases filled with marines, sentry guns, mines, and god knows what else they've been up to while you were climbing around the rest of the map ;)

but when u play avp its not balanced for the quantity of ppl u may fight...... its balanced trought the alien speed........ anyways this has nothin to do with the topic <!--emo&:p--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/tounge.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':p'><!--endemo-->
well the conclusion is that ur gonna see everything normally but ull stick to the ceiling..... makin easier to watch things goin on under u.....
and other players WILL see u properly aligned with the wall.....

I think Tycho was referring to one time that I asked MonsE whether the hud (not the view) will flip around so that bob's feet aren't just hanging off into space. He did say yes, but didn't say when it would happen.

Personally, I don't mind as it's just a cosmetic issue.

The claws could of course just disappear when you start wallclimbing, I think its better then they just hang in the air. Btw, will bob be able to claw someone wile he is wallclimbing?

Good decision, I just played the AvP2 demo and was so confused by the Alien view that I couldn't hit a thing. And that's not the only thing I hated about that demo.

Bob's primary attack is Bite, not Claw.  He can leap at an enemy using his claws (like the AvP2 Pounce, but not as lethal), which logically would release him from the wall.

I think if its done like AvP1 it would be easy. If its like Avp2 then itll be stupid

    AvP > AvP2
  • BattousaixBattousaix Join Date: 2002-06-25 Member: 822Members
well i think we should stop comparing ns with avp......
  • Us3rUs3r Join Date: 2002-03-29 Member: 360Members
Uhm, Batt, we're not comparing anything, we're mearly talking about the wallclimbing view. I don't see how that is comparing anything, it's only giving an example on the topic.

I would like the view to change.  Think about it...

A lvl1 climbing around the walls and whatnot would be hell to hit for a marine.  A simple jump off the ceiling could dispatch 1 guy like *snap* right?  Think of the matrix, how hard it was for the poor fools to shoot wall-walking dudes (and dudette).

So if the view changed, it would require alot more skills or coordination to get such an easy kill.  Isn't that the basis of hand-to-hand fighting in any game?  More powerful = harder to perform.

It's just a good way for somebody to learn a new (and cooler) technique for killing enemies.
