Actually, it's pretty fun to play one on one. Very challenging as the marine. You have to race back and forth from the station, setting up perimiter defenses, creating resource towers, and upgrading your weapons.
It's frustrating, but the challenge more than makes up for it.
HEhehhe! man I'm sorry man! Everytime I see your avatar i cant help thinking about that sean-claude-van-damme-post <!--emo&:)--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':)'><!--endemo-->
if the game is going to be like on game per map, and when the game is over there is gonna be some hell of a mapchanging, as when the marine dies he can't call in himself as reinforcements.. 1on1 is NOT fun in this game i think. It starts to get a little entertaining when there are at least 8 players in the server.
I thought the game went till one team ran out of RP, wouldnt it cause an annoying loop if there was no one to respawn the marines? so the whole map would have to restart?
I thought that the game would automatically bring in reinforcements after a while, if the commander doesnt....like an anti-lamer thingy.
Hmm maybe i imagined it <!--emo&???--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/confused.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt='???'><!--endemo-->
Nah the hives to regenerate and reproduce on thier own, but i could have sworn that under certain circumstances reinforcements would be called in automatically.
Heh heh . . everbody loves Jean Claude. And he's so happy in that picture, too. Oh, that silly muscles-from-brussels . . .
When you're the commander, you can purchase reinforcements, and stockpile them, in a manner of speaking. So when you die, you respawn, and one is subtracted. At least that's how an earlier build was . . I can't remember if it's staying that way. But you can log in and out of the console pretty easily, so it's not like you're either the commander or a soldier, and you can take care of business on both ends, with a little bit of skill.
Um....so the commander can stockpile reinforcements, say 10. This is paid for with X amount of RP there and then. He can then leave commander mode and play as a marine, if he dies he is brought back as a reinforcement and that 'stockpile' of reinforcements is now 9. And the only way for the aliens to win is to destroy the commander console or keep killing the marine(s) untill there is no more reinforcements.
Is all that right? i <i>really</i> hope it is cos if i have to type out 'reinforcements' one more time....
Yes. That sounds right, at least for the old build which Mike-The-Grinner (almost said Mike-The-Grinning-Fool, but...) has spoken of. Personally, I like this approach.
The commander can be killed?? <!--emo&:0--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wow.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':0'><!--endemo-->
Yes the commander can be killed and after you killed him go and destroy the command station to end the game fast cause no reswans equal win for aliens <!--emo&:D--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':D'><!--endemo-->
The commander is inside the command station, so he can't be killed unless he comes out of it (therefore he's no longer the commander) or he pops out on destruction.
therefor the marines have to build defenses (: duh. But if the command station is destroyed, the marines can still win, destroying all the lasting hives without commander although this will REALLY be hard to do. -Do the marines win when all hives are destroyed or when all aliens are killed including all hives. I'm a supporter of only the hives, because without a hivemind the aliens can't live, and the marines can't acces vents.
A marine can access all the alien only vents while ducking and using a rocked jump whatever. <!--emo&:p--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/tounge.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':p'><!--endemo-->
i think that is something the mapper should NOT have in his map. Maybe some door, which can only be opened by a member of one team (a flag for a trigger_multiple and func_door with team1/team2 maybe?), the mapper could have something built-in to prevent marines from entering the vents.
Flayra said their would be team specific triggers in the new trigger_presence entity. That would allow you to have team only areas. I wouldn't advise it though.
it might add in interesting twist if the marines got reinforcements every 5-7 min or so, about 2-4 marines. if so, the aliens should get 1 alien every 2-4 min. Marines win when all hives are destroyed, NOT when all aliens are dead, and all hives are destroyed. Aliens win when all marines, including commander, are dead. Aliens kill commander by destroying command station, but once destroyed it can be repaired by any marine, cause it would suck if the marines had to keep playing without a commander.

* Okay i've killed all the marines. So why haven't I won? *
