You posted your problem 8.16 AM. Couple hours later you come back and whine that only 7 users has looked into your thread.
There isn't much activity in this board at that time.

And this Tech Support forum isn't the most popular forum either. <!--emo&;)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/wink.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wink.gif'><!--endemo-->

Anyway, glad you solved your problem.

First of all, down whine about people not helping you. Wooo! 7 views. The average view/reply ratio is about 20:1
Second of all, ever thought that the people just don't know how to get it to work?
Third of all the Steam HLDS hooks up to the steam network. Which isn't a good thing, there are ZERO NS players using the steam network.
Forthly, the Steam HLDS will only run steam downloaded games properly afaik.

Wow.. you have succeeded in making yourself look like an idiot by:
Doing something completely pointless and getting angry when people try to make you realize it isn't worth it in the first place, wether you make it work or not.
    and by:
Spamming your own thread. Its called the edit button. Use it. That is assuming you can read and not just write... poorly
Why would anyone want to play ns on steam? Steam is a ram hog, an unstable platform, a horrible waste of space (a new set of HL executables for EACH MOD?!) It also takes up unneeded bandwitdh by downloading stuff you don't need and not letting you stop.
Thats like trying to convince someone to rent a 400mhz Celeron with 64mb of ram as a server for the same price as a dual 2.4ghz Xelon with 2 gigs of ram.

wow u are a true muppet first i did not whine i said thanks secondly i did not get angry until u flamed me
thirdly what the **** u care bout the install methods i chose for hlds?

if u realy want to know its a simple way of getting hlds without having to wait on fileplanet etc etc for 34723894723948237492 years. its a ram hog in windows YES
BUT I DONT USE WINDOWS AND ITS NOT PERM USE IN LINUX LAND
    GET A CLUE.

BTW FOR THem who care i might make a ./install sh script that will get all the bits and setup a ns server for u in one easy step

You forget, Most people who actually play NS run Windows, as Linux has problems running the actually client. So its great you got a sever running and that its not a ram hog, but Who the hell would actually play on it? The people running windows wouldn't. Its a complete utter ram hog on windows, as we both pointed out. and 1 server? Wow.. that justifiys the 1-2 gigs that Steam takes up once its done its downloading. It would have to be the best server in the world with the best community in the world in order to get people to play on it. Heck, people have problem enough running C-D while playing NS, and that only takes 2-4 mbs of ram insted of 32-40 and only sends/recieves about 2kb/s insted of Steam which will take up as much as it damn well pleases.

well saying that the steam install in linux of hlds is smaller than the download and smaller than the windows version
im sorry if i sounded like a complete **** but people like dedicated servers for playage im trying to achive that

i used to run and still maintain a counter strike server under linux and its lot less stress on ones box for lan games when u do run it dedicated so my point is for people that need to do what i do can do it and i will attempt to make it easyer for them to do it
    ...
btw ram usage for my hl server under linux is as follows

    31813 root 14 0 54052 52m 5924 R 23.5 42.5 7:04.92 hlds_i686

i dont think thats to bad and for people that have to worry bout stuff like that should try it
it runs perfect on my dual PII 233 with 256mb of ram

now all i need is to find a copy of rocket crowbar for nix(i went to there site they claim to have nix vers of it but only windows one avalible for download *pout*

and i can ensure that cd is installed and functional on my server
also btw the server there thats using 52mb of ram also runs this
