There was a longer topic before. Well over 150 pages, not sure how long it did go. It was before ns had come out. Anyone remember this. "Tales from the frontline" I loved that topic. ppl really had some writing talent.

Congrats on the compile, and thank you for bringing back one of my favorite maps.

What has been done with this map, what the community has done to ressurect this map from the dead, is what I really enjoy about the NS community.

Thank YOU!!!

Alright I did a compile with the lights. It took a little over an hour and I like the way things look. I'm still gonna let WolfWings handle the official compiling though. I know hes got a few tricks that I don't know. Now I just gotta do a second compile since the commander view was off. Hmm.. maybe I shoulda just edited the bsp file

Sorry I've been gone the last 40-odd hours.

Been re-installing my system, for various reasons I'd rather not get into right now. =-.-=

So can you have a compile done tonight or no? I just finished the compile and I did a buildminimap so I have something quite presentable to Flayra. Should I just send that off for now and then send your version once you compile it so he can update it before the next build?

You do have LOTS of backups, right?

Send yours. Still getting Steam running again, along with everything else. =-.-=

I'll start in on replacing my ad-hoc func_wall chaos with proper clipping brushes though, and send you back the replacement file once those are done. Should drop around 25-50 entities from the map, and improve movement throughout most of it fairly drastically, especially during lag-spikes.

The worst things about Nancy:

1) The goofy little lips around the vents. These made getting in them impossible.

2) The incredibly cramped layout of mother interface made it very hard to navigate as anything but a skulk.

Have these been addressed?
• WolfWingsWolfWings NS_Nancy Resurrectionist Join Date: 2002-11-02 Member: 4416Members
The lips on the vents are, by and large, gone. Most of the vents are now perfectly flush with the walls. Lerk's and Jetpacking Marines generally have the most trouble using wall-mounted vents quickly, fades have the most trouble using ceiling-mounted vents quickly, skulks use either quite readilly.

The lip couldn't quite be gotten rid of in Cargo Interface, due to the sloped wall. In a future revision that might get addressed more properly, along with adding in 'cups' over all the vent exits where appropriate.

As for Mother Interface, the worst of it, the clipping issues with the bashed-in door, should be resolved in this version. I had no trouble walking in circles around the outer edge as an Onos, nor getting in and out of the hallway there. If there are numerous Gorge buildings it might be difficult still, but that's a general truth of Onos movement, and not something realistically 'fixable' from a mappers perspective.

Onos should have no trouble barging right in to mash a marine emplacement now though, and with the rebuilt vents it's more feasable to assault the hive from multiple directions at once.

And I assume Door-Smashing-Fun is there as well.

We played 1.04 nancy in 2.0, and packed 4 marines or so in a door, and closed it. One survived, and the door never worked right again Only half would close and the other would be open.

Okay, good to hear.

I've just about got my computer back up on all cylinders finally. Takes a while to do a complete re-install of everything on a Linux system.

Yes, Virginia, I'm a Linux user, on TOP of being a GtkRadiant user. Yes, Steam runs under Linux with some tinkering. No, I'm not using WineX. =^.^=

And yes, I'm going to do my best to fix Radiant's problems with talking to Hammer if I can.

Great, I can't wait to start fighting for messhall again. Skulks quickly rushing to messhall, finding a nice corner to hide in, a group of marines approaching the door, one marine opening the door, newbie skulks getting blasted not knowing that they were in the line of fire. Then one marine runs across the roon, which triggers a wave of skulks pouncing out of their dark corners. The rest of the marines rush in guns blazeing, then all out carnage when either the skulks get the upper hand, and the marines will have to try again. Or the marines win leaving the skulks to come leaping down those wicked stairs to almost certain death.

Definately the best place for team combat in all of ns. Can't wait.

Well we had our first test of the map. Not officially, but thanks to Lightning Blue and {MA}Vicious for hosting the files and servers. Things went quite well. We found some bugs and things already which I'm quite happy to see how fast they are being spotted. Hopefully a beta 2 will be on its way shortly.

WolfWings, it's great that you got Steam working in Linux (with WINE I am assuming). Could you point me to the information you used? Thanks.

dont forget the door button.
the best thing about 1.04 was sitting on the roof of mess hall, waiting for a group of marines, then closing the door after the first is through. it pisses off the guy who dies, and freaks out the others...
sooo funny

ah, you know from the sound of things, that door may be gone due to entity constraints. if there was one door i'd keep in the map though, it would be that one.
• LazerLazer Join Date: 2003-03-11 Member: 14406Members, Contributor, Constellation, NS2 Playtester
No the door is there. I remember the doors being one of the coolest things about nancy so I kept them.
