Rise Of Nations

Well, what do you think?
Was browsing through GAME today (a chain of game stores... in case you hadn't guessed) and I noticed that number 4 (i think it was 4) in the game charts was "Rise of Nations".
"What's this"? I thought, "Another AOE2 clone?" So I read the box and.. yep. It looked pretty much like an AOE2 clone. So when I got home I looked at the reviews and they all looked pretty good. How could I have not known about this game until now? So I downloaded the demo.
It roxx0rs.
I was right in my initial assesment (ooh, big words), it IS an AOE clone (i.e, made by the same people), but better in just about every way.
You start off in the ancient age (i.e, dark age) and you can go all the way up to the information age, which is basically today. Every civilisation has unique units (yes, that is a plural), for example the British get longbows (of course), highlanders (men in silly hats with guns) and the black watch (men in slightly less silly hats). Oh, and Lancaster bombers
The amount of whizzing around the map doing a million things at once is a little overawing at first; as well as concentrating on your army you have to be researching, gathering resourses, making new cities (essential for wealth, the new name for the "gold" resourse) and producing new millitary and civilian units.
I can't stress enougth how satisifying it is to hear the sound of clashing swords and swooshing arrows (is swooshing a word? Well it is now ) slowly give way to the BANG BANG BANG of muskets, and finally the sound of machine guns which i am not going to attempt to put into word form.
I could write more, but I need sleep now (why do I always read the forums past midnight, why?) so i'll leave you to post your opinions and leave a little link clicky so that you can play the demo if you haven't already.
P.S, I haven't actually got the full game, but after playing the demo i'm definatly going to

I haven't played RTS scince StarCraft, but I think I'm going to wait for LOTR RTS
The graphics are great. If you look at the generals in their little cars, you can see the general looking to the left and the right.
The ingame music reminds me of the music from my brother's favorite RPG(Wild ARMS for any of you interested). I dislike this music.
Micromanaging is a must to victory. Finding the right speed of development is key for success as well. The game has a great wealth of hotkeys for this.
The thing I hate though is you can end the game by using too many nukes, an instant lose for everyone. I still think it is a great buy though.
We find that the best rules are 10/15minute no rush and elightment age cap, they make for the funnest games
Heh, it's made by a guy who worked on Civilizations
I LOVE THIS GAME!!!!
ICBMS!!!!!1
(if only I could turn off the apocalypse timer, I just want to nuke my enemies to high heaven.)
One RTS that has really caught my eye is coming out soon. Its like Civ 3 in the sense that you start off with a basic civilization, and work your way up through technological and scientific advancements, but its in 3D like Warcraft 3 (but with greater detail) and its an RTS.
One problem tho: I can't remember the name of the occursed game. If anyone knows what game I'm talking about, add the name somewhere nearby. I believe it starts with a "D", although it is likely that I am mistaken. Until then, I'm gonna go insane while I rack my brain for the name (every time I remember it, I forget it the next day).
All in all, if you like AoE or Civ and wanted a slightly better RTS, go with RoN..or wait for Dawn of the Modern Age(the new game by guys that made Empire Earth, it looks fantastic as well.
I'd recomend it to any RTS fan.
Oh, so true, I always nuke people before I send in the infantry.
EDIT: The best wonders to get are: Terra Cotta Army (creates a infantry unit like every 30 seconds.) the Supercollider (Research is instantaeous) and The Space Program (negates a nuclear embargo, meaning, YOU CAN NUKE NONSTOP!!!! )
And Versailles, which makes your supply wagons/trucks heal your units. AFAIK, this is the ONLY way to heal outside garrisoning, but I may be wrong. Am I?
I don't get what these "Nuclear embargo" and "Apocalypse countdowns" are, since i've only played the demo (though i've ordered the full game) I haven't got the manual, anyone care to enlighten me?
I've only got the demo too and I've seen it
Basically whenever a nuke is fired the timer goes down by one (starts at 9 or 10). I don't know what happens when it hits zero. Constant nuking can't be very good for the planet can it?
Nuclear Winter anyone?

The game ends with Apocalypse, and every player looses. There's no way to turn it off either :-/.
and I think the counter depends on the number of players, I played with 8 people and the counter was 32.
4 per person?
