    When you ran the installation, where did the installer say it was going to install the files? c:\sierra\half-life? Somewhere else? Did you change the location?

    Ok... that location, c:\sierra\half-life... does it really exist? i.e. do you have this path:

    c:\sierra\half-life\hl.exe

    ?

    Well, do this for me then, if you're not sure. Click Start, then find (or search). For the filename, type in HL.EXE, and search the whole C:\ drive. When it's done, tell me where it found that file, and we'll probably have an answer to your issue.

    i did that search and it found LinkHl twice and it found hl.exe with a folder next to it

    Let's do this then: Take this batch file and save it to your PC. Run it. When it's done it will open up a small log of where HL.exe has been installed. Copy and paste that info from the log into this thread. Then we'll know what the dealio is...

    hmmm, ok I am gona ask some questions, please try to answer them very exactly <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->

    1) What is the name of the file you downloaded?
    if it is not <a href='http://mirror.redphive.org/ns/ns_install_v20.exe' target='_blank'>ns_install_v20.exe</a>(or you aint sure) DL it again from there.

    2) What do you own? HalfLife, CSretail, DoDretail?

    3) what is the path of your hl/cs/dod dir?
    if you are unsure simply right click on any shortcut you use to launch any WORKING HL mod (or HL itself)
    go to properties
    copy the "target" and past it here.

    thank you good night <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->

    is that wat you need monsiuerEvil?
  • MonsieurEvilMonsieurEvil Join Date: 2002-01-22 Member: 4Members, Retired Developer, NS1 Playtester, Contributor
    Yes! Ok, so you do have an hl.exe and it is installed in the c:\sierra\half-life directory. Good! Now, in that directory, do you have an NS directory?

    You can look via Windows Explorer and see if there is a c:\sierra\half-life\<b>ns</b> directory. If so, is the NS directory all full of files and such?

    Also, while we're in there, in the c:\sierra\half-life\hl.exe file, can you:

    1. Right-click the hl.exe
    2. Choose 'properties'.
    3. Tell us what it says for 'size'.
    4. Click the tab marked 'version', and tell us what it says for 'file version'.

    We're almost there I think.

    Err, your hl.exe file will not be 199MB. It will be considerably smaller. Are you sure you have the right file selected? The HL.EXE file, which is located in your c:\sierra\half-life directory.

    edit: and I know all this because I coded that installer <!--emo&;)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/wink.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wink.gif'><!--endemo-->

    Ehhh, something is veeerrryyyyyy wrong with your HL install. Did you copy it from one PC onto this PC? It sounds like it got copied from a directory all into a single file by mistake. I would delete your c:\sierra\half-life directory and reinstall it from scratch.

    Don't tell me you warezed it though, as I will have to stop helping you. <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->

    how do i delete and start over?
  • MonsieurEvilMonsieurEvil Join Date: 2002-01-22 Member: 4Members, Retired Developer, NS1 Playtester, Contributor
    Well, use windows explorer to delete your c:\sierra\half-life directory.
    Then reinstall half life.
    Then patch half-life with the 1.1.10 patch from one of these locations:

    <a href='http://www.fileplanet.com/download.aspx?f=57317' target='_blank'>fileplanet</a>
    <a href='http://www.cscentral.com/dl/dl.php?719' target='_blank'>cscentral</a>
    <a href='http://www.cscentral.com/dl/dl.php?719' target='_blank'>fileaholic</a>

    Then run the NS 2.0 install.
    Everything should be working fine then.
