Halo Pc - Pretty Good Gamespy Preview

<div class="IPBDescription">Hands-on-o-rific</div> The guys at GSI got to have a hands on preview of Halo PC (and Mac), and made a pretty good writeup, with lots of new info. Overall, I'd have to say I'm looking forward to it. I was never able to bring myself to finish Halo Xbox, simply because console controls for an FPS are t3h sux. Now I'll have a chance to try again.

<a href='http://www.gamespy.com/previews/august03/halopc/index.shtml' target='_blank'>Extree, extreee, read all abouuuttt iiittttt</a>

And another developer goes the wussy route on mod making, then wonders why no one makes mods for them, ala Unreal Script, C&C Renegade, BF42, and so on... Make an SDK nubs!

OMG GAMESPY IS BAD!!! WHY? I DUNNO MY FRIENDS ALL HATE IT SO I WILL TOO!!!

How about commenting on the article, instead of giving us boring predictable sunnyD teenansgt. Sheesh. If you had read the article, you would know how they plan on supporting mods. Instead, you can live out your life in 'cool ignorance'.

mhm.. i already knew about the whole split-screen to regular multiplayer co-op fuxation. that's a real pity. co-op would be amazing on CPU with more than 2 people *_*

if they manage <i>that</i>, PLUS even more subtle moddage (like player shield reduction), it'd be SO amazing to storm the control tower with a squad of 10 or so guys... 0_0

Damn skippy. Having an advancing platoon of warthogs supported by a couple attack ships overhead, running up against the high-powered infantry weapons of Aliens in a cool defensive position, all with plenty of wide open spaces and actually cool undulating terrain? Sounds like dissimilar team-based 'high action, low strategy, nifty feature' NS-like fun to me.

Wow, tad childish on both parts there... but while you're at the deleting, why not remove the "gamespy am teh lose" posts, including your reaction to them, add a clause to your original post, and then I'll take this paragraph outta my post, and we can all continue on like no one had made an **** of themselves...

Anyway, nice article. Moderatly informative, and the last page gave me the info I wanted, the release date.

As for Esuna's now deleted topic of the level design, I'll have to admit that the inside terrain is a tad repettative, but I thought the outdoors design was quite origial. Of course, I've only played like 2 levels of the actual game, and the demo mission...

I look foreward to its release, cause I was, and still am, too cheap to buy the X-box for one game that I know I like

    Arg....whatever. I forgot about Halo....its all about teh KOTOR...best....xbox game....evar.

But it on PC will be good, good, goodness. And lets just wait until someone DOES do co-op on the PC version. If anything, they should just let us all be regular joes. AKA, no shields. Whatsoever. Let us keep the strength of Master Chief's armor- just toss the shields. THAT would be sweet. And also, let a lot of people on the warthog. I mean, A LOT. Like, 7 in back(1 gunner, 3 on each side), 2 in the front seats, two lodging themselves standing up in front of the gun, THAT would kick. Imagine 2 Warthogs like that rushing at eachother. Fah-reaky.

And I hope they made it so that the thing would predict if its gonna land upright or not- I remember me pulling the sweetest stunts, and for some stupid reason, it always would launch me out, 15 feet in the air. BAD idea for shields. Mnyeh.

Even though I've had the game since Xbox launch I'm really looking forward to this one, thanks for giving the link MonsE. We used to have 8 to 16 person LAN's every Friday after work with the Xbox version. Capture the Flag was a ton of fun on the maps that supported vehicles. An insane amount of strategy would be going on. And I can only imagine how good it will be without everyone cheating by checking out the other team's screen(s).

NO, silly billy. what i was thinking... i dreamed this up as soon as it was said there were ever <i>plans</i> for halo to be ported.

okay, consider this. instead of being t3h ultimate 1ee7z0r mjolnir cybog booyah, it's a squad of very skilled but still human marines.

step 1: reduce shield effectiveness. nerf 'em! (maybe even NO shields, but then there aren't quite enough medpaks out there)
    step 2: select legendary mode
step 3: reduce the damage of the human pistol

not sure what else there'd need to be, i'm gonna test this out on PC multiplayer as soon as i can.

but with those steps taken, you can imagine that there'd be MUCH more strategy required to manage your team, and with the possibility of easily taking permanent damage (medpaks have to be used very sparingly by the team), you might even have to practice avoiding muzzle sweeping (that is, do a VERY good job of not shooting each other).

storming areas such as the Assault on the Control Room atriums, filled with shield-bearing jackals and grunts, many firing at fully-automatic because it's Legendary mode, will be <i>infinitely</i> harder because of the nerfing done. but with a <i>squad</i>, a commanding strategic mind will do just that much more for the game.

i'm probably just a freak who plays halo going through whole rooms without waking up sleeping grunts or provoking elite guards, scoring only headshots in firefights to conserve ammunition... in co-op shouting "frag/plas out" when throwing grenades, and backing against corners to avoid enemy fire while waiting for the blast...

but if you substitute <b>invincible pwnz0r rawkitt lawnchair tactics</b> with a pure, raw, practical and logical game plan, halo becomes SO much fun. it's amazing.

    take my word for it.

Based on what they said about modding, Zig, everything you listed is pretty possible without having much coding experience. That's a tweak-mode gameplay variant, sounds pretty simple in their scripting methodology.

And liger, nobody cares what you think about previous posts. Stick to the topic or don't post.

I can honestly say I'm very much looking forward to HALO pc. Mostly for the multiplayer. I usually only to get to play the Xbox multiplayer once every few weeks. This just happens to be the exact correct number to keep me salivating without getting tired of it.

<i>This</i> is my main concern about the online MP. It just might lose its shiny allure and become just another FPS that I play when I'm particularly bored. Here's hoping that it'll rock mah world!

lol. i know it's possible, i'll just make sure to do pinpoint tweaking so that it's as realistic and engrossing as possible as a new sort of atmosphere for the game.

and yeah, dubbilex.. i do say that. when my friend and I were barreling through legendary in the strategy groove, the only reason we didn't say "taking heavy fire, requesting backup" was that we were so in-tune with each others' processes in the game that we were already back to back, side to side, or shooting over each others' shoulders. amazing efficiency achieved by being just completely absorbed into the game. it's a fun thing.

I completely agree - it is indeed one of the most fun experiences I've ever had <b>when I don't play with utter dolts</b>.

Getting a plasma grenade stuck to your back at pretty much every conflict zone, dying, and then <i>yelling</i> for your teammate to get his butt back far enough that you can respawn detracts <i>ever so slightly</i> from the overall experience <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo-->

it's more the company I find myself in sometimes. If you look in the Tech Support forums for example, you'll find I'm pretty much friendly and relaxed, as people are having problems and are asking (usually nicely) for help. Sometimes though, people just rub me the wrong way with their attitudes.

Anyhoo, back on topic: I think Halo1 PC could turn out to be something relaxed and fun to play. Especially considering that if the mod scripting portion is done right (/me crosses fingers) creating new gameplay modes would be a snap. I'd love to spend some time making gameplay mods that were more imaginative than brainless CTF and Last Man Standing. We shall see...

actually.. my halo-hardcore friend and i would storm the landbridge in "assault on the control room" in such a blitzkrieg of asskicking that we could steal the two banshees there (instead of waiting several levels to fly them). using these we'd fly around bombing stuff and shooting each other. it was cool. especially cool crashing full speed into enemies w/o the vehicle taking any damage.

the other awesome thing about banshees is: if you ever get attacked by banshees in blood gulch, make sure to position a warthog at the back of your end of the canyon. the minigun on the warthog makes redundantly perforated swiss cheese out of banshees.

/me watches WolF's dreams of becoming a moderator go down in flames

When I heard that Halo was gonna be XBOX exclusive, I decided to completely ignore the game. I had no intentions of getting an XBOX only so I could play Halo (especially considering the price of those things at the time), and I didn't want to know what I was missing. Me no see, me no envy. I have been very successful at this, indeed so much that I don't even know what all this hype about Halo is. What's so cool about this game? I dunno, I have only seen a single screenshot. Fear my ignoring skills. I'm looking forward to the game now though.

As for GameSpy, you've got to know how to read the re/previews. You'll soon find out where they are completely right, and where you can cut the game a bit of slack and buy it anyway. It's something that comes with regularly reading the site.
