<div class="IPBDescription">i need help</div> Its Stargate SG-1 episode 4 of 7th series (Orpheus)

{425}{492}Close quarters withdrawal!|It's gonna get ugly! (O'Neill from the other side of the gate to Hammond)
{505}{572}Acknowledged, Colonel. We'll|be ready, just give us the word. (Hammond to O'Neill)
{600}{721}Watch your friendlies, safeties off,|cleantargets, clean backgrounds. (Hammond to soldiers guarding the gate).

My problem is with the last sentence, actually "clean targets" and "clean backgrounds". These are probably some military terms, dont know. What is the meaning of those?

    mm... can't say I remember this one, sorry...

    But, the clean targets, clean backgrounds bit most likely means to watch your fire zones... basically, don't shoot unless you're sure you're not going to hit a friendly.

    Clean targets meaning dont shoot at anything you are unsure of. Try to get a clean shot. Probably lots of friendlies in the area.

    He doesnt want any "blue on blue" or friendly fire.

    As for clean background, Just as Liger says above.

    As very near to be future cop in training, We learn to always check behind your target for any friendlys, civilians, importatnt other stuff.

    It would be very bad to shoot at then miss your target and hit your friend or some little kid bystander or whatever behind your target.

    Hope this helps. <!--emo&;)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/wink.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wink.gif'><!--endemo-->
