<div class="IPBDescription">Some of those maps are too dark!</div>Attention fellow mappers!
Some of your maps may seem fine to you and other people, but on some computers those dark rooms will be pitch-black. This cannot be fixed, because it is the video card that causes this. Even with the gamma turned completely up, the moniter's brightness on full, and the moniter's contrast on full, the room will appear pitch-black. Please make sure that the lights in a room are not darker than 60 (that will only make sense to hammer/worldcraft users), and no darker than 40 if there are several lights placed closely together (about 64 pixels or less apart) so that darkness is not a problem. This will allow everyone who owns halflife to play all of the great ns levels without having a problem with rooms being "too dark." Thank you for reading this, and please check your maps.
P.S.- I am not part of the ns team, I am just a mapper like you.

Hmm, yes, thank you.
a great program for configing the overall gamma
www.ecolour.com
this program is designed to get rid of the problem that not all monitors have the same brightness. exelent program
One of NS's major specifications when designing maps is that it should 'be bright but FEEL dark'. IE, constant dark rooms and gloomy areas are discouraged unless it is possible to see what is going on.
Also, many pictures you see posted here havn't been adjusted to compensate for NS's gamma ramp, which means they appear darker than they would in game.
Fear not. All your visibility are belong to us.

hmmm, sounds like hes badmouthing Fam =D (that pic is hilarious)
i think the amppers, devs and PTers can work out whether a map is too dark or not.
Wow, I never knew the central processing unit had anything to do with the brightness or gamma of the game. News to me.
But anyway, I have gamma turned all the way up and I cam always see in pitch-black areas.. with very old video hardware.
Umm, i think ur refering to a computer that has had the gamma setting maxed out and maybe the moniter had brightness set to max, the CPU (which is the processor, not the video card and is not used in the place of computer) helps determine how fast the game will run.
