ok lads, lets get some ground-rules now that "LegoR1" is released:
-I have NO reason to post this in the topics, i am getting nothing for doing so, so please dont flame. -Make criticism constructive, if i get intelligent comments i will improve on the models. If i get flames i will leave the pack less than half finished. -Bear in mind this is the 1st release. Its gonna be rough. -Please post any FPS improvements (but remember only marine structures have been re-done (so far), i estimate they account for only 30% of the graphics, polygon-wise)
Well none of those work in HLMV... But anyway, I think you really should fix the see-thru parts.
EDIT - Well I tried it ingame... And it certainly looked kinda odd at first, but now I'm getting used to them. The see-thru parts are not as horrible as you would think, and it's easy to recognize stuff. Our comm did a MAAAAD turret farm, which later on caused the server to crash, but I didn't have almost any lag at all. So nice for the fps these things <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo--> .
I'm now waiting forward for the rest of the marine buildings.
Here's a 164-poly version of the SG I've been using the last couple of days. Interested?
I'm doing similair rebuilds of the rest of things. Armory is going to be fairly heavilly neutered, changing the 'foldout' bits to simple slide-out panels showing current state. I.E. Pop-up signs that show what's happening at the Armory. Icon for Mines sticking out when those are available, slides out further to show the HMG when that's available.
Similair 'stripped-down' versions of the other models are in my head at the moment. The Armory, Turrets, Siege, and TF are my first targets for this sort of 'careful stripping' though I think I can nuke a few dozen more polys from this Turret model once the DoD-style 'see-through texture' polys are available, by doing things like replacing the 'U Fork' with 8 tris, and replacing the 'truncated cone' I'm using now with a roughly-equal number of tris, but regain the 'tripod' look.

I guess I just see a 'low-poly' model pack as something that should keep what quality it can. Removing the textures doesn't speed anything up, even on a Voodoo2 card. =-.-=

I was enthusiastic about this until I saw that they were just blocks of colour. Just fixing the holes and re-applying the texture maps would make this 100 times better.
WolfWings has the right idea, making low-poly models of everything that actually look like they belong there.
Yeah, I agree with WolfWings and Mart. Lowpoly is not blocks of color, instead something that looks like it should be there, just not with the same amount of polies as the original model. As lot of unnoticable details should be removed first...
So as to prevent 'thread hijacking' from occuring, I've moved discussion of my 'hand-crafted' low-model WiP to a <a href='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/index.php?act=ST&f=19&t=44589' target='_blank'>new thread</a> for those not interested in 'lego' low-poly models.
I <b>will</b> be using the DoD-specific .dll-required modelling tricks in these, so I estimate 50-75 in-game polys for most anything.
I put in the lego theme under the assumption that plain blocks of colour would be less CPU intensive than the original textures; but ill take ure word for it that the textures make no difference ( i made no pretense about being anything other than a noob modeller)
I can put all the textures back in, if anyone is interested
Also, does anyone else find that the DoD .dll's slow down ur computer? Im not referring to the low poly models that requires these .dlls; but the actuall use of the .dll's.
plz help none of thes links work anymore i need low poly buildings. ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!

but I might get a gforce 2 <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo--> <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo--> <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo--> <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo--> <!--emo&::marine::--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/marine.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='marine.gif'><!--endemo--> <!--emo&::nerdy::--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/nerd.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='nerd.gif'><!--endemo-->

and thats a valid point - it does take some getting used to
I think Im gonna redo the SG and Arms Lab, as these models are pretty rough.
Not been able to work on the others today, so R2 wont be out tonite.

Threadnecromany!
Don't bump old threads please, try PM'ing the makers of the pack instead.
