    (After each step, try connecting)
    First.
Try forwarding NO PORTS, this is what I do, it works fine
    .
Second, if you have to forward ports, make sure your computer has a STATIC IP.

If you left the settings at the defualts, you have a DYNAMIC IP.
I do not mean with your ISP, I mean with your router:

Remember that your router is 192.168.1.1, and the first static IP probably should be 192.168.1.2
If you need help getting a static ip, the router came with instructions.
If you switch to a static IP, reboot your computer before trying HL

    Third:
Verify that your ISP is not blocking the ports, this may have happened due to recent virii, you should email tech support asking about it.

    Fourth:
Close every other program you have running.

If none of those work, goto start> run> and type cmd
    then type netstat.
now click the little dos box in the upper left corner, and move down to edit, and choose mark.
Now select the output from netstat., then press enter.
    paste that into a reply

Before you even post, try reinstalling HL, and NS
    Update your drivers
Follow EVERY step listed here that applies to you..
THEN POST, BUT INCLUDE COMPLETE SYSTEM SPECS, INCLUIDNG ROUTER FIRMWARE VERSION
I've gotten to the point where I am going to ignore peopl who dont do the above, and ask for help anyway

    Drake:
That post has nothing to do with this thread

update half-life, cs, and ns. If youre running cs retail, install ns to c:/sierra/counter-strike/ns

and I dont care if its already there, delete it and reinstall it to that directory.

    It was the FIRMWARE!

I downgraded from 1.45 to 1.43 and it works now! that is: V2.1 or less router Linksys BEFSR41. hope anyone else that has this router can fix their probs too.

So that's it! It stopped working shortly after I upgraded firmware.

How do I downgrade? I can't find old firmware on the site anywhere.

    goto ftp.linsys.com

in the Pub folder, goto BEFSR41, and there should be befsr_fw_143 (at least that's the one that worked for me)

some of the other files are corrupt (or at least can't decompress with winrar.)

    hope your problem is solved.

indeed. be careful with your firmware in the future, you should unplug all connections but the computer that is updating before you flash, it is possible that the firmware could become corrupted.
