High Poly Armory

Version 1
#3 of my High poly marine buildings.

This one was a little harder to make due to the fact that i had to keep the same concept of the 2 peices rising, the pads, the advanced mode...
And the 2 bmp textures... ugh! That was a pain in the arse to subgroup everything.

Anyway, it's 796 polys right now. Not a huge upgrade i know, but it's rounder, the pads go inside the top part, the advanced modules go inside the lower part...

Oh and i added the top cylinder as a personnal touch.
Since this is version 1, i couldn't be arsed to animate it so that it only pops up when the armory is upgraded to advanced mode. I'd have to reanimate the whole thing. It's also a mess of bones in there. Might as well redo the whole skeleton to something a lot simpler.

Bah! Enough babble.

MIRROR!
Next up, res tower!

P.S.: If it looks small, thats just cuz i jumped while taking the shots so that the health meter wouldn't appear and to get a good angle. It's perfectly the same size as the old one

BP. You can add joints to an smd using notepad. That way you can avoid the garbled mess that turns out if you add joints in milkshape. So, you don't need to reanimate it all. You just have to look in the reference SMD.

    Off course!
    Why didn't i remember that?

    I'll get on it asap.

    Only 796 polys?

You aren't taxing my GeforceFX 5600 at all. Shame on you!

opening the thread i prayed this is not only a round version of it.
i mean structures looking like perfect lathed cylinders does NOT make structures look better in general.

Instead you should add more detail to the panels, not making them boxes but using "bumpmaps" of the textures to make them 3d and rounding some 90° angles to two 45° angles.

this one looks like a rocket with werid wings.

    the opening animation has improved.

If you want to get a good idea of how to turn low-poly models into high-poly models without just making them rounder, I suggest you go look at xwaupgrade.com. Since all of their models look fantastic, and yet they're all based off of ugly blocky base models.
