strange that you should bring this topic up; I was discussing this with my roommate this afternoon. Schroedinger's cat box is merely a thought experiment designed to illustrate why Schroedinger felt that quantum physics was flawed. As a thought experiment, it works beautifully, but in a real-life application you would not be able to construct one.

1) You would have to have a non-radiating cat; otherwise it would observe itself.
2) You would have to have a impenetrable box.
3) You would have to have an isolated system, infinitely far from other sources of radiation or matter (since there is always the possibility that another particle is actually inside the box at any given time (granted, it's nearly 0 probability, but it can happen)

As seen above, Schroedinger's cat box wouldn't work under normal circumstances, and you probably shouldn't be betting your money on getting away with murder with one of them.
