why so heavily moderated?
Pft, this is OFF-TOPIC. Why close things like the comment on the avatar before yours post? I mean it's funny enough that you actually read the whole thing. It's not like one of those posts where you read the first post and you either decide not to post because you are too lazy to read the rest of the thread, or you just tack on your comment at the end because you think your opinion is important enough, even if you don't care about others' opinions. I mean take for example the change log posts. If I see them early enough I'll write my responce after I read what the other people have said and then respond, but gees it's like 13 pages now, if someone just now read it, do you really think they'd read through all 13 pages of yay NS rules, thank you, no matter how true it is? (Those were just some examples I could think of.)
I also think it's funny that some people actually fear posting here because they might get banned for writing a duplicate post, I mean, what silliness. Is it so difficult to just not read/ respond to a post that might have been discussed last week? I mean I purposefully try not to post anything that isn't really important like a question I have, but I see new people whined at all the time because the topic had come up before, such silliness imho. Anyway, happy gaming, see you all around.

Or you said something incredibly stupid that warrants banning and a good wet-towel slapping.
Kudos to Jane for starting this topic; I almost did a week or so ago but lost my nerve. And MonsE closing all of CWAG's topics bothers me too. This IS off-topic. It exists for people to entertain themselves by posting whatever they want, as long as it's not flamey or sweary, etc. If people can't feel free to post off-topic in off-topic, then why bother having an off-topic forum at all... the mods close the topics people are most interested in... it's like they WANT us to be bored.
You also forgot spammy and pointless.
And I understand how you feel to, I mean, we can't even have a babe thread, because some idiots spam and make pointless remarks. Fingers at Nem
i'll repeat that it'd be really nice if mods could just delete stupid posts in these topics instead of locking them entirely.
not necessarily... just when things get ridiculous and a bunny picture is discussed (instead of pictures of people being posted or commented on), mods can go ahead and delete some replies.
The short one: This is a private board. Cope with it.
The long ones:

I agree that moderation of O-T should be a little more leninent, and if you are honest, you'll have to admit that it is, but this forum is nonetheless still part of these boards. Happenings in here can have implications on the rest of the community: Flamewars can be carried over in the more 'serious' areas, and smacktards attracted by a low niveau O-T forum will also disturb other forums. This is the general reason for a moderation of O-T.

In general, we try to hold a certain level of maturity up on these boards. 'Babe threads' and other ways of hormone deposition do not fit that aim. Sorry, but Off-Topic does not mean 'Any-Topic'.

We tend to lock threads getting too spammy because they don't benefit anyone, clog up bandwith, and generally have rather little in the way of dialogue going for them.

Nobody will be banned for posting a doublethread. Nobody ever was. We lock the offending topic, try to supply searchstrings or alternative topics, and move on. People are asked to avoid doubleposts, but do you think we truly enjoy banning people that much?

Deleting posts instead of locking threads is a bold aim and done occasionally, but time constraints and the fact that after a number of nonsensical posts, there is just no going back to seriousness keep it from becoming the norm. It doesn't really make sense to delete two pages worth of posts because the first two had something going for them.

Generally, if you have a complaint about a specific lock / nuke / delete, PM the mods / admins. We're only human and make mistakes like everyone. We appreciate feedback and will at the very least offer you the rationale behind our behaviour.

CWAG, I won't start getting into your issues with MonsE, but I can't see a reason why you would be banned.

Nems already pointed out the reasons for moderation quite eloquently so I'm not going to attempt to one up him in anyway, what I am here to say is that I'm going to have a word with Mr Zero about looking at the post your pic thread and its successor and seeing if we can clean them up and make something of them, I too enjoy seeing what all you eejits look like so if I ever happen to see you in the street I can run over and giggle at you.
