Question
Hi, first time viewing webby and forums and i noticed there is no INFO on wether or not owners of Counter-Strike Retail can play the mod using that rather than half life, like many others.. Day od Defeat, DMC, TFC... Or Do you really absolutely NEED Half life?.. Thanks.

Truth be told, your absolute best bet is to just go and pick up the original half-life. Not only will you then be able to play NS without problems, but you also ge the most compelling single player experience ever created, not to mention the insanley fun half-life deathmatch...

You can probably find a copy of half life GOTY edition for 20 bucks at your local EB, or even wal-mart *wince*

It works with retail CS.

But why buy retail CS when you can buy half-life for like 15$ and download CS for free?

But whatever.

Yeah, that's what I wonder. Half-Life + Blueshift/OpFor is probably as much as Counter-Strike, maybe a little more, so you'd be getting HL and its expansions for a good price. And you can just download CS afterwards... in fact, even if you have 56k, you can order a $10 CD from Fileplanet, if you want to instead of downloading, with CS mod on it. And that'd still be cheaper than buying CS.

Or, some people buy CS retail for the sequal to Halflife, 'Half-Life: Redemption'.

All CS Retail copies I've seen have been cheaper than the full HL game. And in all honesty, the HL single-player isn't *that* good. And Deathmatch, come on...

In theory, CS Retail should work fine for all mods, as it's the exact same HL engine minus the single player part.

it works with CS retail
they focus at the moment on getting the HL version working becouse the CS version is just a few lines of code different
do not worrky ppl with CS retails
*cough* haha *cough*

NS will have CS version and HL version out at the same time or within a week or so after eachother.

bottem line:

ALL MODS WORK WITH CS RETAIL.

I've yet to hear about one that can't be made to work with it. It might be a bit trickey to get some to work since exe names, directories, and whatnot are all different, but the possibility for it to work is there. This is because CS is itself a mod still, even in its retail form. There are no engine changes, and that would be the only thing to keep the thing from not being able to run a mod.

Doom is right. Just simply put the folder in the same directory that your 'cstrike' folder is in and any mod will work. I've never had a problem with getting a mod to work with CS retail, but maybe that's just me.

Another thing, don't diss HLDM! Crossfire rules!
