Um... what the hell? That is quite possibly the most confusing layout I have ever seen, plus it does not look like it could even go into the catigory of a NS map.
Ugh I don't really know what to say about it as I don't really understand it. "Dormitory", that sounds interesting, usually it's better to post screenies, it's hard to realize someone else's vision without a better visual aid than that. Start mapping it and then post your screens - the NS community always needs new and diverse maps! Good Luck and Have Fun!
looks more like a "fun map" in my eyes. otherwise: the map is COMPLETELY simetric. a NONO for ns maps. and I hardly see the playvalue... the shipidea isnt bad but work out a better layout. and know what? rooms under rooms are another NONO for the whole ns universe! how the hell the commander should be able to watch over his troups?
Err... It seems that this place has a lot of dead ends... Or is it just me... I'm a bit confused (or haven't spent enough time looking at it). <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->

It's also FAR too blocky and predictable, not to mention absolutely tiny.
Back to the drawing board i feel. <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->
Awww... Seriously, here's how I map - make a room and design a theme for that room, then make another room then connect them with hallways. Many Game Designers say it isn't necessary to have any material like a layout, for example:
Can't fin the book now darnit but,
The creators of Duke Nukem: Manhattan Project, said in "Game Design: Secrets of the Sages Seocnd Ed." that they didn't use a layout or a design doc, they simply mapped things, and as they went along they said, this is cool, i like this, keep this, do this, whatever! And it turned out to be a decent game for it's time!
I wish I could find that book for the exat quote but there's the bottom line.
Agreed. I personally never follow a map or something. I just pull the rooms out of my imagination and then... And then I *sigh* delete them with one lousy click... <!--emo&:(--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/sad.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='sad.gif'><!--endemo-->

absolutely symmetrical maps would not "feel" that good in normal NS, but when Marine-vs-Marine / Alien-vs-Alien is implemented, symetrical (or mirrored) maps would be perfect.

The first version of NS_Veil was very symmetrical, and it really didn't feel right... thankfully the release version maintained some of this symmetry while having unique rooms. And it works.

I change the textures of the walls. add a triangles on doors to like more ns style. I will make a new strip with old textures of ns to put in the doorways. This is a picture of the progress.
