The Bait And Eat Tactic

<div class="IPBDescription">And the marines are the fish.</div> Just a quick tip to those who don't know about this:
Smart alien teams will use skulks, gorges and lerks to bait marines into an Onos devour.
I've seen it MANY times and I wind up yelling at players to NOT chase gorges/skulks/lerks when I've seen the alien team displaying this tactic.
In the early game, when the aliens have one hive, it is usually safe to chase a gorge, lerk or skulk in an attempt to kill it. At the very least, you will be lured into more skulks, gorges, lerks, or a chamber trap. There is risk, but not as high. If anything, you will probably get 1 kill out of it before dying.
In the later game, after hive two, I have seen alien teams successfully baiting individual marines (heavy or JP with HMG/Gren/Shottie) into what I call a Free Lunch. For example, a marine sees a gorge and says "Oh, I'll get that little fattie!" and chases him down. He rounds a corner and WHAMO there's an Onos. Onos stomp, Onos devour, and there goes your HMG/HA/JP/whatever. Since your teammates were probably off elsewhere, you have no chance of being saved from the Onos' belly. Plus, you probably didn't kill the alien you were chasing in the first place, so it's lost res all around.
So, in short, keep a buddy with you. Heck, keep 2 or 3 buddies and WATCH the alien team. Don't just run around blindly, try to determine if they're using the bait and eat tactic. Shoot at them when they appear, but do NOT follow into a dark knook, around a corner, or down a pit. They will probably have a nasty surprise down there in the shape of a 2 ton Onos.

If you do happen to find yourself alone for whatever reason (no waypoint, rest of team dead, small Rine side, etc): If an alien is hiding somewhere out there chuckling at you, or you just can't seem get past them to a waypoint after several deadly tries, Don't go try and find something else to do. The alien is probably waiting for you to go away, so they can get past you. At least if you just stand your ground, or keep charging in to die, they know someone IS there...
A) Give him a GL and send him far away to start attacking lots of structures, making the aliens feel he's part of a large group.
B) Send him out ahead of your main squad and lure the aliens out with him while your HMG/shotty/LMGs wait behind.
Your tactics are either offensive or defensive... Defensive oni are hard to kill, they have support, movement chambers, and can stomp+devour+run. However, offensive oni, like everything else, are much easier. If the heavy squad is moving in a pack and getting scan support, then 6-7 guns firing in sync are going to keep a lone onos away pretty easy, especially if you play d whence you can no longer use devour+redeem.

YES! Nearly all marines chase an onos they <i>think</i> is nearly dead, only to wind up eaten/gored.
Unfortunately, it's usually only light marines.
you go behind some chambers or what ever and wait until a marine stops by then start wisping your mouse like maniac and and marine thinks you are stuck but when he shoots or comes close STOMP and jump over the obstacles <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->
ive used this in the NL gamepoint test servers WORKS like a clok work orange
another one is the onos+DEF chamb tactique first ask a gorge to accompany you then you find a marine installation and ask gorge to build a few DEF chambs and few off. chambs around the nearest corner while you protect him then you do hit and runs to the marines keeps em pretty busy while rest of the team has some time to get the rest of the hives up ( NOTE you can do this even with 1 hive if the hive is used for the def. upgrade and get the REGEN. ability to make the hit and run safer )
HAPPY HUNTING <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->
1) Less res, this is the main reason. At 1 hive you should make hive 2 NOT go onos IMHO
2) You have blink. You can hit and run far faster.
3) If you have 3 hives you have AR, and can own turrets from a distance.
Still, onos has the advantages of more health, so you are more likely to be able to get to the 'run' part of 'hit and run'. <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->
Check out the kharra strategy for a great discussion on the topic of fades and their usefullness. Title is something about fades being underused.
Use an onos, much better investment in most cases.
