Movement

<div class="IPBDescription">Who's on point?</div> I have given some consideration to movement of squads in NS and how travel in groups can be maximized.

Groups of marines usually wind up traveling in single file with a man at the front (on point) and a man in the rear (rear security). Everyone in between is just.. there. Roles switch as marines move from room to room, with the pointman remaining at the doorway/archway, watching the rear until his entire group passes. He then becomes the rear guard and follows along.

I've noticed that this change-up keeps all the marines on their toes, as their roles change throughout traveling and allows them to be more alert.

Movement strategies for HA can be different when welders are introduced, as most heavy trains form into tiny crowds when they have time to weld one another. I haven't thought out a good movement plan for these guys yet. And jetpackers really mess up the works <!--emo&;)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/wink.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wink.gif'><!--endemo-->

    I hate it when I see any marines doing a conga line to their destination. It's completely inefficient. Staggered rows are usually best if the corridor is wide enough. As long as it's possible I would want my marines to travel two abreast, and if I find myself more than a step or two ahead of the rest of the marines, I stop and wait for them to catch up a bit so we're together. You just have to make sure you don't pack together in a way that blocks each others' movement or clumps you together as a big marine-ball that skulks can chomp up in 3 seconds. Loose formations are good, but you need to be in positions to maximize covering fire on whoever gets chosen as lunch.

    The best way isn`t to stack up all in one line or all next to eachothers. instead you should try:

    Marine 1 *
    Marine 2 *
    Marine 3 *

    Etc.

    This will keep the retreat route open, and easy to Fall back cause you would get coverfire from the ones that are behind marine 1. and this would give marine 1 time to withdraw.

    the last man in line HAS to watch the team`s back. so a good group would be a group consisting of 4 or more.
    Giving you 2 options.

    either put 2 to guard the front and 2 to guard the back.
    or 3 to the front and only 1 back.
    but this would mean that at least 1 person would have to be ready at all times to help out the one in the rear.

    no matter where you are in the line. first,last or in the middle. ALWAYS try to check your back every now and then. cause you never know when you are the last one.....and as soon as YOU become the last one, you have to take over responsibility for the rear area.

    I really don't think movement tactics are quite as necessary as everyone says. As long as you keep GLs in the rear, any other gun can go up front. If the marines stay smart and keep their eyes peeled it's a bit redundant to keep a regimented movement formation.

    Rigid movement plans fail in the field. Once combat starts, it all falls apart. Just figure out what your role in the situation is (gl = support, hmg = guard, lmg = bait), and put yourself at an appropriete place in the group.

    The most important thing is just to stick together without getting in each other's way. Spread out as much as practical while being within line-of-sight of the whole squad.

    Yeah, formation breakks once enemy arrives, so it is very important that the people in front must CROUCH. Most squads fall due to teammates blocking your line of fire, therefore crouching would give another teammate room to open fire. Also, when being attacked by skulks it is best to kkeep your back against the wall. Nothing is more confuson thatn having a skulk dance around you and slay you while you fire wildly into the air.

    just don't block the guy infront of you from jumping back.

    U crouch with ur back to a wall when fighting a skulk? <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->

    btw ...that one must cover while the others move is pointless,because *no recoil* in ns...
    Play less CS and more NS <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->

    And i prefer the simple:
    First: hugging left wall
    second: hugging right wall
    third: left wall....and so on

    Of course on a left turn the first freak would take a wide bow around the corner.
