Commchair Problems

LitoLito Join Date: 2003-09-04 Member: 20560Members
When i asked some people in the game how to make squads they all replied to use the way that traditional RTS games do it which is "Ctrl + (# 1 - 5)"

but i've tried it several times and on several commanding games on different servers and it never seems to work. anyone care to clarify?

Also, i can never get the 'use the jump key to jump to the alert" thing working

I think the keys 1-5 in your config is not standart
you must bind the keys to standart

    bind "1" "slot1"
    bind "2" "slot2"
    bind "3" "slot3"
    bind "4" "slot4"
    bind "5" "slot5"

    than it will go!

i remapped my controls a bit, so would it still work? (my current crouch is kp_del, but i think the default was LCTRL)

Looks like you'll have to do kp_del + #1~5 then

But Im not really sure, unless it remaps your keys when you step in the commchair so CTRL is crouch

Be sure to group your grunts as "Squad 5". Squad 1 is over used...

The jump button problem you have has to be binded to the keyboard in order for it to work. The mouse jump button won't work.

    Er... no.

The squad 5 is for the Elite players officially, whilst 1 should be for your Grunts.
Personally, I don't assign grunts squads. They may go all pompous and important. Best use the groups for the different styles of play (Rambo, sniper, heavy squad, etc.)

For me, I dont usually assign squads because I only command small games. But I should.. <!--emo&???--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/confused.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='confused.gif'><!--endemo-->

Is it true that if you have a single marine selected or a squad that all your mic speak will only go to them?

well i testing it out, and the binding the number to the corrisponding slot worked.

also, remapping the controls changes the way you create squads. So if you remapped your crouch key to kp_del, to create a new squad, its kp_del + #1~5

As for the jump key to jump to the alert, it still doesn't work. i think i just need to bind +jump to mouse2
    and that'll solve it.

As for the speaking to inidivdual marines. i heard something about that, but never really tested it out.

Remapped keys will work, but I suggest you create a seperate config for commanding and for normal gaming. You don't need to use the arrow keys so frequently as commander (and your WASD keys are, by default, rebound if you're a WASD player) so your normal config might not be the best.

    This I strongly recommend.
Buying a mouse with 5 buttons and 2 scroll wheels not only is worth bonus geek points, but gives a substantial boost to gaming success.

In UT2k3 you can bind mouse 5 to LeftLeft, causing you to dodge that rocket at the touch of a button.

Similar things can be done in NS, including acknowledge order, request health, chat, evolve this and that, etc.
