Alien cloak, seen through by the commander?

I hope not.
In a few of the stories I have read the commander has been able to see cloaked aliens and spot them out for the marines, does this still happen if you have level 3 cloak? And also I know the commander sees things using motion sensors so if an alien stands still is it impossible for the commander to see?

    AFAIK The commander is essintially a player noclipped at a certian height. His view should be standard to any other marines.

    sorry, but that is untrue,

    i've decided to start mapping for NS, and as such have read all the guidelines etc., most notably to entity list. basically, you can create things that only the commander can see, and create things only regular players can see. hence, it would (or rather, "should") be just as easy to implement it so that marines cant see the cloaked alien, but the commander can. just what i can gather from what i know...

    First off you must realize that alien structures and units cannot be seen by the commander at all without a marine having them in his fov. Now how that affects cloak, I don't know. If the cloak is not a level 3 cloak I can understand that he might appear on the commanders screen only partially cloaked, that might be the answer. Also, movement detectors would not detect a cloaked alien, why? Because they aren't moving.

    A commander sees things exactly as his marines do. Sometimes he has an advantage - say an alien is hiding on a dark ceiling. It will be well-hidden to a marine looking up, but would stand out clearly (as a shadow) against the well-lit floor below, to a commander above it. Cloak affects the commander the same way it affects marines.

    gotta love the brevity in that statement, yet clear if you read it properly, a lot of information put in a short sentence. Well done coil!

    Yessir. If the instance of Commander seeing cloaked alien is my story from the frontlines thread, the alien was positioned against anInfested wall, but the floor was clear of infestation. Detailed textures allow a cloaked alien to blend in better than simple textures, so the alien was more visible from the commanders POV, even though the level of cloak was the same.

    Oh thats what I wanted to know. I had thought that the commander was able to see the alien because of the he used the motion sensor technology that he has......

    Commander and marines alike have motion tracking (once it's researched)... but if the alien isn't moving, there's nothing to pick up, is there?  (;

    Motion tracker... do the marines have to pull it out, or is it always on their screen, ala AvP 2?

    There's a little confusion here. Coil, do you even PLAY as commander?

    Most things Humb and Coil have said are true, except for one thing: the commander can always see alien "blips" within a certain range of his soldiers. This means that if an alien (either cloaked, in the dark, or in any form) is standing close to a marine, behind him, the commander would see a "blip" there. The commander can't see the actual alien model, so he can't tell what type of alien he is, but he will see the blip. This isn't an upgrade or anything, this is always in effect, and it's an advantage of the commander. The idea here is to allow a good commander to always have more things to do, and offer ways to help out his team. In practice, it's damned hard to keep track of all your players, resources, and tech, so it doesn't feel unfair to the aliens.

    Every once in awhile, you'll be in a good hiding spot, and a marine will seem to know right where you are. That probably means you're up against a great commander...

    Oh, thats true . .my bad. I always wondered why I thought I had motion tracking localized around my marines . . .ahh . . .now it makes sense!

    Hey, I've played as commander! Like, 4 times!

    Actually, I just recently commanded my first victory. MAN that felt good. But yeah, I guess I never realized *why* I got blips. (:
