Laptop Resolution Problem

<div class="IPBDescription">HL Keeps Minimizing...</div> I'm running a Compaq Laptop (Presario 2170US) and I'm having trouble getting HL to run on it. It seems like my monitor only supports 800x600 and 1024x768 resolutions. However, the HL menus run at 640x480 (I think). When I run the game, it loads and runs but WinXP automatically minimizes it to prevent the resolution conflict. Is there a way to boost the resolution of those menus? Or is there a way to load HL straight to the game at a specific resolution to avoid the conflict? Has anyone else come across this problem and how did you fix it? Perhaps someone can redirect me to a place where I can find the answer?
