Lets up the number of NS clans
Recently, we have been trying to scrim more and more, and realized, this game just needs more clans. I know that the pub play is going well, and with this, there has to be people who regular in various pub servers... why nor form a clan with the people you know from playing with them all the time in pub? You will find that playing in a competitive environment will be very different from Pub play, and will probably increase your game play in pubs dramatically. Leagues require teams to be successful. Cal needs more teams, scrimming and playing with the same 10 teams every day just doesn’t cut it. If you don’t have a server, big deal, start a team anyways. Get to know the teams that already do exist and have servers, I’m sure they will loan you there’s or even better, play against you on it. If you want help starting a team, Talk to me in #eR, or talk to any of the ops in #findnsscrim Just let them know you want to forma team, and I’m sure they will be more then willing to help set things up with you. Both those channels are on irc.gamesnet.net , You can also Instant message me on AIM @ electricice , or on ICQ @ 126277131 But please, try and get a team together... what’s the worst that could happen, you get to know a few people? Get your name out there in the competitive community?

It is kinda odd there hasn't been too many clans forming in NS recently... or if there have been, the mainstream clans of NS don't really know about them.

There are always 'no name' clans that are there but hardly get any name recognition. By recongnition, I mean popularity.

I've personally been dying to get into clan play since I spend so much time playing NS, but I really don't know how to get started. It seems like most clans are either really good and so I'd never get into it, or they suck so much that I wouldn't want to be in that clan. Is there a good place to go to find clans that are looking for new members?
• electriciceelectricice Join Date: 2003-04-14 Member: 15474Members
cant join a clan? start your own...somebody has to do it, why not let that person be you...you pick who you want it, your team will then be as good as you want it to be.

SIN would like to join competitive play soon, but not in CAL. My Saturday nights are for socializing, not gaming.

I can think of AT LEAST 6 clanless players who play on hamptons that, put together, could probably be a top 5 clan. Someone just needs to get off their **** and snag them. If you start a clan, get on IRC, register a channel, idle in other clan's channels, and most importantly, idle in #findnsscrim and play scrims. You might not win your first game, you might not win your first 10 games but stick with it and you'll come around.

You can reschedual with CAL. Believe me, there was a lot of caps use in our IRC channel when we found out Saturday was match night. So, that's not an excuse.

sYn has 2 servers now we usually let people use them if we arent. Stop by #syn on gamesnet if you need a server for something.

Yep, I know about the rescheduling. STA-TFC has the same rule, and I've never seen it used once in my 3 years playing there. Clans join CAL knowing that they will probably have to play on Sat night (and modify their schedule accordingly with practices/scrims). You might occasionally get a clan to agree to move nights, but I doubt you could get it done 100% of the time. I think the SIN Sat. night forfeits would start to pile up pretty quick.

I guess I'll just have to keep bothering Othell until he gives in and changes the night!

Yes frikk you can reschedule, but ALOT OF PEOPLE dont know that. They assume you HAVE to play saturday so they get discouraged from being interested in clanning . Saturday is a terrible night for having league play I dont know why people even voted for that day but oh well. Another issue is clans that try to crossover into ns , was the cost of servers. I knew a couple of clans that wanted to cross over to ns but they had to pay twice or more the cost of their original dod,cs servers. And nothing is more important for a clan than to have a priv server atleast. But im glad this topic was started mebbe some people will have urge to start clans now.

people voted it because tbh most people in cal dont have any sort of life to speak about

what was strange about that vote was the majority of people that play in cal-ns dont even play in other CAL leagues. So a weekday could of been chosen easily??? or was the vote rigged??? ;o
• EnemyWithinEnemyWithin Join Date: 2002-11-03 Member: 5572Members
Most of the Sat night votes were probably by younger players that can't drive yet and are stuck at home on Sat night anyway They should require an age limit for the vote...18 and older only!

Our clan was started earlier this summer, we plan on joining a CAL leauge, but it's a bit far out of our grasp until we can organize enough good members. Currently we are at 12 solid members. We are also a dedicated NS clan, but we might expand into BF1942, but thats another story.

But wait... in college *thursday* nights are for the partying, and those other days are just... I dunno for putting off assignments. The silent majority of college gamers will keep Cal games Saturday. And as everyone said, just reschedule if it's a problem?

ok, if you have a clan, here's what you do.

Get 6 people together, join #findnsscrim on gamesnet, and find a scrim.

tada!

er, std, syn, apex, red, pandas, dn, HAM, ue and a few others I can't rattle off right now are the only ones I see active on IRC. Furthermore, it just so happens that those are the top clans in the NS community. Any new or lesser skilled clans that bother to speak up in #findnsscrim get completely crushed by them. It's a bit discouraging. The best would-be clanners end up joining and filling gaps in the top clans rather than forming ones of their own.

If a bunch of new clans start(the goal of this post) then you wont just have to play the top teams. do you think that we got to the top by simply playing pubs? its because were active that we got to where we are. You too can make it to the top, but to get there you have to try. cowering in the corner will do you no good

Were active in irc but not much on ns cause more than half of our members got college now. If your good stop by #uevo on gamesnet :DDDD we need some new meat
• CHAMoisCHAMois Join Date: 2003-02-09 Member: 13339Members
the more known clans should start some sort of clan adoption program where we teach a new clan the ins and outs of how to be half decent.

It would probably encourage more clanplay if they knew they could get some help on the differences between clan and pub play. Granted, those things can be aquired by just scrimming until you find what works for you, but clearly not many want to try that route. I can't really blame them, it's hard.

But I'd love to see some diversity and I do see potential in alot of people that dont have clans or have clans that dont scrim, and they should give it a shot.

You really have no clue how exciting this mod can be until you find yourself in a tense 6v6

Ice, I'm not arguing your proposition. I agree 100% with what you're saying. I am only stating the current situation of things. Starting clans get crushed by the existing ones and are subsequently discouraged. Just tellin' it like it is.

If people started playing 10 v 10 clan matches, there would be more clans. That's just obvious. Servers with more people stay full longer, fill more rapidly, and have a higher number of regulars. As I've said many times before, 6v6 may be the approved balance number, but that doesn't make the game more fun. Why don't LAN shops all over the world host 3 5v5 servers rather than a 16v16 (CS, DOD, TFC,it.doesnt.matter)? Not because they can't afford it or lack technical knowledge, but because people aren't ATTRACTED to 5v5 as much as 10v10+
• CHAMoisCHAMois Join Date: 2003-02-09 Member: 13339Members
we're not talking about filling servers, we're talking abour organized clan play. I don't see how you solve a lack of clan play by nearly doubling the amount of people needed to make a clan
• EnemyWithinEnemyWithin Join Date: 2002-11-03 Member: 5572Members
Having clan matches at 6v6 is something that I hope will be changed in the near future. I assume that number was picked when v1.x servers used a lot of resources. Now that v2.0 is out, and the server issues are fixed, I would hope 8v8 will be tested soon.
