    How is chucking grenades down the vent an exploit! Thats what it was made for!
  • HuntyHunty Join Date: 2003-08-09 Member: 19244Members
    Look at it this way :

    Aliens can take advantage of the 3 minute armory upgrade time,not to mention the huge amount of res involved,the time not spent on getting uprades,etc to spend 10 res to gorg in the vent and bile nano.Marines have to get a adv tf,a seige and at least 2 obs,and possibly more seiegs as it takes forever for 1 seige to kill 2 rts,that will definately cost less than the seige setuop.Aliens on however only have to spend 10 res.....

And I am wondering if the marine’s ability to siege nano from marine start was planed or if it was by accident? <!--QuoteEnd--> </td></tr></table><span class='postcolor'> <!--QuoteEEnd-->
    Max isn´t involved in making ns_veil, it was KungFuSquirrel.

    Max is a coder for NS.

    Max, did you just let something REALLLLLLLLYYYYY big slip?

    did they fix the HL engine problem of explosions going through wals (I have NEVER seen a mod do this to my knowledge)

    This same problem could potentially affect other mods and the original Half-Life, but we made the fix in a change to the NS code. So you shouldn't read anything greater into my statement.

    I'm pretty sure this issue CAN be fixed, as it was solved in DoD 1.0.
    EDIT I guess it was fixed, I just read Max's post. Doh! /EDIT

    It is an exploit, because it violates the idea of what is plausible in the universe (shooting through the floor) and it wasn't intended by the developers.

    ohh, right DoD did it also (thus causing the walls to amplify grenade explosions <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo-->)

    but yah, that problem exists in basicaly all things HL, the fact that you fixed it is Great.

    /me does a little donce <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo-->

(Incidently, from the same shaft that opens into the double node point)
    <!--QuoteEnd--></td></tr></table><span class='postcolor'><!--QuoteEEnd-->

    Then so is that. This happens to me constantly. Almost always when I'm bilebombing from the vent at the double node on Veil. The grenades will clatter down the vent BEHIND me (I'll even see them down there), they explode, and somehow I die. <!--QuoteEnd--> </td></tr></table><span class='postcolor'> <!--QuoteEEnd-->
    That's a bug, not an exploit. An exploit is something that *exploits* the game design to do something unintended. It's basically cheating without a hacking program.

    I don't think Bile Bomb was intended to work through walls like that so yeah- that's an exploit.

    Uhhh 2nd hive?

    Let's call it a bug not exploit.

    How about we call it "exploiting a bug" Best of both worlds.

    Ok assuming the NS dev team works to the methodolgy of "If it aint broke, don't fix it", then it's safe to assume that anything they HAVE fixed must have been broken~.

    Therefore if the dev team tells us that they have fixed explosions going through walls, then it's only safe to assume that it was broken previously, and that any tactics or techniques based on a broken game feature would then also be reasonably assumed to be exploits...
