There will be 3 ways of sellin hl2:

1.Walmart,Cosco SINGLE PLAYER ONLY,i do not suggest it,also if u preordered this is probobly what ur gettin.

2.Internet,BestBuy Mostlikely..Single Player + Multi Player,You will be able to download 3rd party mods but not TF2 or any other made by valve

3. Internet Single player,Multiplayer,and valve mods,PAY TO PLAY!!!

4.Collecters Edition,UNKNOWN!!!

    Ok, you need to get banned again.

    This is a RUMOR. You know, just like the rumor 4 months ago that HL2 didn't exhist? Ya, just like that. From the same people. Idiots.

    This is also just like the stupid rumor that says "HL2's multiplayer will be pay for play"

    This is also the rumor that says that its gonna come out winter 2003(which its been confirmed a bajillion times, its gonna be there, September 30th. Ok people?)

    Quatonaut, you need to take a deep breath, close your eyes, and then count to ten. Its not a rumor, valve said it themselves, there <i>is</i> a p2p subscription, but its optional, the descriptions nukuaga gave are accurate.     Ok, first off, anyone whos been around PHL long enough knows they're full of BS. Like example A:

    Back in 2001, they said that Steam was going to go open beta, for a fee of $20 dollars.

    Back in 2000, they said that Counter-Strike would never be retail.

    In 2002, they said that the HL2 demo was coming out in a month.

    In early 2003, they said that Half-Life 2 would be un-modable.

    So, I think I have reason not to trust the idiots who run that site. Not to mention, I've talked with a few of them and even they say that a lot of their info is *PURE* rumor. Never confirmed.

    So...I have my reasons.

    The "Pay-to-Play" rumor that everyone is worried about is just a subscription service that will allow people to essentiially rent Halflife 2 over Steam, and play it as long as they pay for the subscription. There will not be any fee for playing online if you buy the game from a retail store.
