Steam And Won Ids

Don't know how relavent or accurate this, but thought I would just throw this out there and see what people think.

STEAM is suppose to go live this Wed, 10 Sep 03, I think. WON IDs are going to be going away and replaced with Steam IDs. This is suppose to happen during the two weeks after the official steam release.

I am thinking that this will have some effect on admin mod and some plugins that use or interacts with WON IDs.

Just wanted to throw that out there as a kind of heads up to people that may not have thought about this. Servers that use WON IDs for reserve slots will for sure be effected I think.

adminmod and amx have been updated to work with steam ids for sometime now actaully

There is a small problem with adminmod and reserve slots but these are being worked on by the adminmod team atm

I know a lot of people don't like steam, but thats because it was BETA. Just like ns has a couple BETA patches right now. Now that steam is officially being released as a full program, it shouldn't have most of these bugs and complaints, they are most likely fixed. With the release, if NS is included in it, that would be great because it would cause a new influx of people to play ns.

I would also encourage you guys to show natural selection to your friends, clan mates, buddies, etc. That way it will become even more popular, generating more support and probably a NS v1.0 for half life 2.

I tell everyone that has Half-Life that I come in contact with about NS. It is my favorite game (practially the only one I play).

As for steam... I am just greatly disappointed that valve is doing this. I liked steam when it was in beta because I only had to deal with it once and never have to look at it again. Now it seems that I am gonna have to use steam instead of hl to play hl. That just doesn't seem right...

I've read that Steam is known to keep track of browser history data (amoung other things) and that valve openly states they sell this data in some document somewhere. Does anyone know if there is any truth to this?

No its 100% rubbish, lies spead by the OGC forum people.

The whole deal is the OGC people hexed the qcache file which is 400mb and holds all the maps, models, sounds etc for the mod. This is so in testing people couldn't use custom content. In this file tehy found information about files downlaoded by kazaa, internet history etc.
However, this cache file is a pre-allocated file set aside so that Steam knows it will have enough hard drive space to download whatever it is that you need. But because of the way FAT32 works, whatever data used to be there won't be erased until Steam actually writes something there (all it's said is "I'll need this space for this file, set it aside for me"). The references to other files are from whatever file was there, then deleted.
