Judging by what you posted way back in the first page before Jane corrupted it with her snuggle offers (/me glares and Jane), it really does seem like you have her best interests at heart. You didn't just think it got stale and want to move on, you actually do want her to be happy.
As long as you truely do want to help her, truely want her to be happy, you're doing nothing but loving her in the truest sense of the word. You don't have to be in a relationship with her to do that.
I think you did/will do the right thing.
Oh, BTW, no sweat about the Short-fuse-age-ness, you should have seen me after my GF broke up with me a few months ago.. woo... that was rough.

as for advice and such...
look, It is true that when relationships go sour they generaly go sour only on one side (almost all relationships have one person who is more commited, even if it is a good relationship)
and if you honestly don't think it will work, LET HER KNOW NOW! You want to make a clean break of things..
Don't cheat behind her back. If you make a clean (well they are never clean DUH) break, there is still always the option of seeing eachother again (things change)
but if she finds out anytihng. That bridge is burnt, gg.

The problem in letting her know that i wanna break up is that she WILL bombard me with phonecalls after I leave.
The girl I met, Sarah, we've decided that (after I break up) we will have a very no Bulls**t relationship. It won't be one based on the foundation of "love" but hopefully it'll grow into that. And we both know that it'll be a relationship that doesn't think ahead more then a couple of weeks.
The cool part about her is that she is almost perfect all around, as she is a "former" game addict, and doesn't mind the fact that I'm a gamer, a died-in-the-wool gamer. Heck, maybe i'll get her hooked on Black and White as she loves god games.
